So last night I was coming home and i downshifted to 3rd after slowing down getting off the feeder. Next thing I know the car dies on me and refuses to start. When I turn the key, I hear some kind of wheezing noise but no ignition. I was really low on gas so I figured I was out but filling it up after I pushed it a mile to my place did not help. I looked under the hood and the fan etc. seem to be turning fine. All the fuses look good. I looked around the forums but really can't find anything to do with my problem. The car is in great shape except I need O2 sensors cause I am getting the funky smell. I doubt that is the problem though.

I love this car and its bugging me. Also being my only mode of trasnportaion since my R6 got stolen, any time without the car is not going to be fun. I really hope someone out there can come out with some advice. Thanks ppl.

First thing is you have to determine if you have spark and fuel pressure at the engine.

Bummer about your bike. Bike thieves are the scum of the earth.

This happened to me with before with another car, I had fouled spark plugs. Pull them and see how bad they look.

so i pulled out the fuel line at the rail and the gas is flowing. replaced the spark plugs. i did have a bunch of oil in the first and fourth plug. car still won't start, wheezing noise, enigne is turning but it just will not start. wonder if it is the starter... also now the battery is dead so everytime i want to test it out i have to jump it :( ... i am still open to ideas, suggestions... watching my baby sit there just breaks my heart... so much beautiful power just going to waste :(

if you are getting a wheezing noise then it may be the starter. The wheezing could be the starter bendix being shredded or it binding up on you. Hit the starter pretty good with a hammer a couple times to see if it makes any difference.

maybe your alternator went which in turn drained your battery during driving and caused it to shut off, does your engine even try to kickover

well.. when i turn the key i get the constant wheezing noise and i can see the fans and belts turn like i said... other than that nothing else... also i did try to pushstart the car when the battery was not drained and that did not work either...

have you made sure your battery isn't dead?

Are you sure you didn't shift into 1st? That wheezing could be a compression issue (ie your valves aren't sealing). The fact that it died after you downshifted really makes me think you moneyshifted.

Did you check your codes like I suggested a month ago?

Have someone turn the key and look in the oil fill hole and see if your valvetrain is turning.

My $$ says it's a MoneyShift problem. Battery is OK (engine turns over). Wheezing sound is air going around the bent valves which aren't seating. People need to read what the poster says and they wouldn't be making statements about the wrong things (like dead battery/alternator).

Well Bobster, I've personally had an alternator go bad, which caused the battery to overload and die. The car would slowly turn albeit not enough to make it fire.

Maybe so, but his car died after he downshifted. An alternator/battery doesn't do that.

hey ppl.. thanks for all the advise first of all

and casebrius, nope did not check the codes.. :devillook ... sorry... will first thing in the morning..

I am having a similar problem... Defiantly not a money shift. Sounds just like what Ive been researching on. I did the same thing thing. Ran my car very very low on gas. It took 14.7 gal to refill so very low... While driving the car it hesitated and popped once even, pulled into my work and died as i pulled into my spot. OK tried to start it, NO GO... So i got it towed home to diagnose, pulled it off the truck and it started fine but the same symptoms your describing hesitation ect. In my research i found similar or identical problems that all led to the fuel filter. I will be replacing mine tonight and ill post again for result. In other instances i read that fixed the problem. Who's the moron that keeps saying money shift??? If you read the whole post you should know thats not it. What did you money shift and want to hear others sorrow and misfortune. Thats not something you should suggest unless they say they were running through 3rd or 4th "then something happened"... Then ask about the money shift...

Good Luck

You may also check if your DME may have disconnected from the connector wire. It is also common that the chip could have lifted off the DME board, push it back in. Happened to me.

Interesting... I had been driving the day before on some ruff logging roads... But seemingly no problems at the time. Will check that for sure...

Thanks
