Is there a dual exhaust kit for an E39 540 that fits the stock M5 bumper? If I have to mod the exhaust, that's fine.

I really just don't feel like trusting it to a custom exhaust shop......

nope... spare wheel well in the way... If you want to go dual, you will need a custom setup.

First off, you're already wrong. Eisenmann makes a dual exhaust, it just doesn't fit the M5 bumper.

no, you are the wrong one. the eisenmann exhaust is a single exhuast with a dual outlet. and this topic was addressed in another thread you started rather recently.

Yes, that's true......sort of. I don't care if it's single or dual, I just want the outlets. But they don't go where they need to for the M5 bumper.

Nevermind, I'll just do it custom.

i thought eisenmann had a choice for there dual outlet exhuast for a non M e39. cant you choose between standard bumper or m technic bumper. i would personally be very interested in this answer because i was planning on purchasing their dual exhuast for my 540 and the m5 bumper. if it doesn't fit that would suck big time. can someone get to the bottom of this

I've read contradictory stories about whether or not it fits in multiple places. I'd call them up and ask.....

so if you wanted a true dual setup can you cut the spare tire well out to make room or is there wiring going through there? I don't mind cutting mine up and having a shop weld in the walls when they are done so I can have mufflers on each side.

There remember reading a thread on this board about someone who actually did this conversion by removing the spare wheel well. I think this is the only way to do it and have a true dual exhaust with two mufflers.

The custom dual exhaust has been done and the spare tire has been retained. The spare tire well must be cut and altered but it is possible and has been done.

EDIT:"2 Magnaflow resonators so it's not too loud (I don't like loud exhausts)
2 Magnaflow Race mufflers ... spare wheel stays in"

heres what i plan to do. I just picked up a set of m5 tubi style rumor exhausts and i went to get an estimate how much it will be to replace 540i trunk floor to the m5 one and it came out to be $2,022.15. this is including the new m5 trunk floor, taxes, paint, clear coat, materials, corosion protection, and refinishing of rear body panel, upper rear body panel, rear crossmember. its a lot of work. you will also need to buy new heat shields and m5 exhaust mounts to complete and you will need to buy the battery box holder and a few other little m5 trunk parts. also a m5 rear bumper. like i said its a lot of work and probably not worth it :stickoutt

great pic of the pipe configuration. i am running the same setup on my 528 currently. and i just so happened to use my spare tire this morning :( so its a good thing i still have room for it. there are numerous cars running this setup or very similar and retaining the spare tire well. i didn't have to do any cutting; instead i used a sledge hammer to "make room" on the underbody.

so how does your exhaust sound? You happy with that setup? And lastly how much did the parts run you?

It's not my personal exhaust but a friend of mine. It sounds amazing, not too loud but a nice low, deep rumble, louder at WOT of course.
Sorry not sure how much it ran him, but I would suggest going to your local exhaust shop and getting a quote as I assume the prices would be different in Canada and the US.

Personally, this is definitely the route I'm going to when i re-do my exhaust.

Any idea on the gains for a set up like this? Was it mainly done for sound and looks?
