I've been impressed with the Sumitomo HTR+, you can get them for $100 a tire. Don't let the low price fool you, the company is rather new and is trying to get their foot in the door with lower prices IMO. Some people complain that the sidewalls are a little mushy, I haven't noticed such problem. They have great hydroplaning resistance, allowed by the generous canals and grooves in the tire's geometry. Yet the dry traction is not compromised.
I've had these tires on 2 different BMW's so far and a 01 Maxima, and for the money you probably couldn't get better. Now if you don't mind spending $150+ per tire then there are better choices of course, but the bang/buck ratio wont get much better

Kumho ECSTA MX Great stick, rather quick wear but not an issue if you like grip at an afforable price.
Yokohama AVS Sport Good grip, decent price, but a poor compromise for bad wear. MX is a better choice.
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 no experience with it, but i hear the handling and grip is great. Compareable to s03 and ps2.
Pirelli PZero Nero Replaced the p7000, which sucked imo. this is a decent daily driving sport tire. try to get the summer verison.
Dunlop SP Sport 9000 Decent grip, wears too fast for the price imo. standard on is300.
Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Good grip, good feedback when getting close to its limits, smooth breakaway. fast wear, lots of complaints. but good tire in general.
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx (cant recall anything about this one off the top if my head, sorry)
Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position Good track, street tire. A little pricey but worth it for most. Good grip, good wet grip. great tire.
Dunlop SP Sport 9090 no clue,
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 pretty much the best tire out there, expensive, and great. Great grip, good wear, great wet handling. if you can afford it, go for the ps2. s03 and f1gsd3 are good comparison tires.
thanks
id go with the nero summer tire for daily driving, with some spirited driving ahead of me. or the MX if i wanted to autox or track.

PS2..its what I have and is the best tire out there.
It outperformed my old Hard Compound A032R in grip.
It has GREAT grip in the wet also, so I can have fun no matter what the weather is, except for snow, even then I drove it in the snow in Chicago and I never got stuck or slipped in the mush. Of course thats at a reasonable semi plowed road.

I'd say Dunlop Super Sport Race. Rides like street tire, grips like a race tire and cheap price. Way stickier than the michelins or MXs I've had before.

but how is the wear? affordable sticky tires are notorious for crappy life spans. These are comparable to the Toyo RA-1 dot Rcomp correct? i dont think id want this for daily driving.

i didnt know much about these tires, so i checked the reviews on tirerack.. not good. sticky, but not enough for what it is. poor compromise. it has a 60 tread wear rating common to dedicated track tires but performs no where close to it. plus, the only 17 inch size is 225/45/17... thats it.

His tire size is 225/40/18 - which they have in stock. If you search this board you will find positive reviews of this tire.
