I'm looking at big brake kits for my e39, and they are all sooooo expensive!! Brembo and Stoptech and insane.....

So, is there a cheaper kit? I just want the look.

540 has rather large rotors by default, but you can always make fake rotors out of cardboard and paint them silver.

I don't know about you guys, but when I'm about to do some hard braking, I'd prefer not to have cheap brakes, as that could very well lead me straight into a wall. All the kits I've found are expensive, but that makes sense, considering the superior quality of the OEM brakes.

Stoptech is about the "cheapest" I've seen, and it isn't cheap

A set of higher permormance pads is a cheaper upgrade. I'm using Axxis Ultimates right now and they are a decided improvement over OEM pads.

Gotta pay to play. Your life depends on your brakes & tires so don't skimp. I love my Brembo BBK...

LOL. You bastard.

Eh, I guess I'll just shell out the money someday. Seems like a waste because it's half the cost of a supercharger and I'd never be able to drop that all at once on my car......

Do you really need a BBK? Are you planning on tracking your car?

Doubtful... oh :(

In that case just save your money and paint the stock calipers red.

Do you need special paint for the calipers? like high heat or something?
How hard is it to paint them?

Here you go Caliper Paint (http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/g2/caliper_paint.jsp)

Painting my calipers is another little project I'm saving for a free weekend day. You can't really see much through the style 5 spokes, but maybe it'll stand out a little.

If you want looks and performance for a fraction of the price think about doing this.. get your calipers powdercoated whichever color you prefer (and maybe rebuilt since they're off) get drilled or slotted rotors (your choice), brake pads, some stainless steel brake lines, and top it all off with a high temp decal for the caliper that says BMW. this will definitly look nice, better performance, and cost less. another option is to purchase the factory porsche turbo brakes. Also I have seen someone swap in the 850ci brembo calipers.

Here is a pic of the kit with plain rotors you can get slotted drilled or both

That's a nice looking kit. Will it fit on a 00' 540? It's aftermarket right? Who makes it and were can buy. My stock front brakes are a little wery. The rotors need to be replaced and it makes sense to get the calipers rebuilt or possibly replace with with new. No Brembo etc... thank you.

Wilwood Calipers.
With custom CNC machine brackets and Hats.

I'd get my own CNC machine to keep it in house but it costs $350,000 for the one that makes this kit

Some other companies I wont name who. Will try to claim this is a track only application. He will say these do not have dustsheild and what not. These are fully sealed and with the same quality of Brembo with a massive selection of Pads.

It will fit e39s including the 540 and 528. also have many e34 kits availble as well.

The reasons why brembo costs so much is sad.
first of all the dollar is low compared to the euro.
Shipping across the ocean ads cost.
The US TARRIFFs the heck out of european goods.
and finally brembo brakes will pass through about 5-6 companies hands before you even get to touch them each one wanting to make a few bucks.

Why Pay all that money to get middlemen rich. Mine come straight from the factory and is made in the USA.

Expect to see a group buy real soon. As soon as Mike gives me the word youll see a group buy in expect unheard of pricing for these kits
oh yeah e36 brakes will be here too

Yeah, Wilwood brakes are familiar to me. I have a sprint car racing background. We ran these on the cars. They are a great product. PROBLEM- I need to act on a purchase now. Any way I can get my hand on a set early, befor the group buy...?

i want to hug you!

yes, willwood is a good brand. i know quite a few Z'ers (300ZX) guys that use them and it's one of the few BBK that will clear stock 16" rims which is ideal since the tires are cheap and the rim is light (and cheap) so it's a great combo to go racing on. all the other BBK will require the Z to have bigger rims.
