acroding to the tach, my rev limiter is about 5900-6000 rpm. a little before the tach's indicated redline starts.. is this normal? 86 e28 535i

Your tach might be a little off. The rev limiter should be around 6250 I think. What does your needle read at idle? Or when the car is off? I wouldn't worry about it too much though. The car knows when to shut down.

actualy, i just took the 535 to scribner on sunday. :) she ran a 16.1 @ 86 mph. not bad i think for mostly stock 183.000 mile engine :)

the tach reads 0 when the car is off, reads about 700-800 at idle. im going to be puting a Megasquirt on it here in the next month, and thought that the car could bennifit from a slightly higher redline (given the 2.79 gears)

jim, are you going to turbo the ride or just put the megasquirt on for better tuning?

megasquirt for now for beter tuning and a few more hp (eliminate the afm)

the moronic, er.. motronic is about as smart as a bag of hammers. ill probibly turbo it next summer.

It is rumored that dumping the AFM on a turbo'd B35 is worth something like 20 ponies....

noice......

ya but everyone over on mye28 has been arguing about that so the jury is still out on that one.

I've been following that arguement... seems that its all about theory, IIRC, and not practical results.

todd has indicated HUGE gains on the turbo cars by scrapping the motronic.

Oddly enough, the e28 tach has been known to be a little pessimistic. When I brought mine in to smog, my tach was indicating about 600 rpms or so, but the smog machine was showing more like 900.

well im hoping dirvability will imporve with the MS like it did on my 325i. also, a few extra ponies is always good. plus the intake will be louder :) heh heh.

yeah... last time I checked that forum it was more about street-racing than anything... something I really don't have a lot of use for....

check out the regional forum here at bfc, we're a screwy crew for certain... and we've got a megasquirt aspirant who might be interested in your experiences.
