View Full Version : I did a very bad thing
I very excited and actually a little ashamed.
I was all set to buy this 00 Red M roadster with 15k miles out of L.A.
The owner has been out of the country the last couple of weeks and gets back tomorrow.
Of course, as they say, "Idle time, or is it Idle hands"...well whatever I had time on my hands. I started to look around. I started to look at 01 M roadsters for more power. More power got me to thinking about corvettes and all the vettes Ive owned in the past.
I started looking for Vettes. Please don't delete my post. I know, I know.
Then I started looking for Z06's. Well I found a 2001 Speedway White Z06 with 13k miles on the clock. In showroom condition.
I haven't seen it yet but I've all but actually handed over the check. Im going there tomorrow to drive it and take it home.
Can we still be friends?

2001 models had the 385 HP engines, and 2002 had the 405s. Id say spend the extra cash and get the 02 or up. Just My Opnion though. Z06s have dropped in price by alot since the C6 came out. I believe there is one by a dealer by me for 33.
Also nothing wrong with the Z, ran a 7.56 at Nurburgring.

I am also going to get a Z06 in the next couple of months. Becareful of 01's they had bad rings and GM won't replace them if the warranty is up. I owned 3 C5's and it's B.S what you have to go through to get even the smallest thing taken care of. 02 were much improved over 01's except there was no white on 02 models and later.
Good luck
randywalters 04-23-2005, 11:10 PM Corvettes are fun. I secretly like them. Good mix of American apple-pie V8 muscle, excellent handling, and great brakes. They're surprisingly nimble !
Im aware of the ring problems with the 01. compression test takes care of that. actually not that mamy really had a problem but I appreciate the heads up.
Mblaster 04-24-2005, 01:08 AM I wouldn't bother w/ an 01.
Resale will suck even if you are getting a smoking deal.
I'd personally spend the cash and get an 02 or better.
My .02
phillyB///M3 04-24-2005, 02:00 AM Zo6's are sick... its abut the only american car I'd want. Good luck with the new car, post pics when you get it. :)
(Get the 02...)
KnightRider/AMG 04-24-2005, 03:15 AM Z06 is an awesome car! post pics when you get it!
I sold my 99 M Coupe to get my 03 Z06, but don't expect a lot of enthusiasm about any non-BMW on this forum. While some peeps are cool, there can be some resentment. You can always hang at the corvetteforum.
Oh yeah, be careful with the cops, I have had 2 run ins in 4 months, as opposed to 0 in 2+ years with my M Coupe

Z06's rock :buttrock Fock anyone who can't see beyond their roundel to realize that.
It's an enthusiast's car, and enthusiasts are just that, regardless of make/model.

T-Rex 04-24-2005, 05:55 PM I was just about to say, "you pulled a B R" but then he already posted. Ya, we can forgive you, assuming you give me a ride :D
supster 04-24-2005, 08:37 PM Awsome, a Z06 is in the line of very possible next/future cars.
Though, I too would wait and save for an '02+.
Well, picked it up today.
Speedway white, 01 Z06 13k miles. I picked up an extended warranty GMPP 7yr/100,000 bumper to bumper. Car immaculate and just freaking awesome.
Being a weekend car I'm sure the milage will stay down there.
gotdinan? 04-25-2005, 12:30 AM i want a ride...... :D

i can see why in the pic. THose look like borla exhaust, and if they are i know exactly how loud those are. They would call attention to you from a mile away. I heard a Borla Z06 when i was pulling into a merc dealer and jesus. I heard him for a good 3/4 mile down the road.

Yes, you have a good eye, they are Borla Stingers which do sound great, but they may have helped get me a ticket :banghead: , & definitely attract attention :devillook .
Aldo, enjoy & be safe. Keep the traction control on for a while until you get a little used to the car. Then you can go into Comp Mode, much better :buttrock . I wouldn't advise going with No Traction Control, unless you are just in a big open empty parking lot.

Oh heck yeah!! Ban big time!! :stickoutt Dude. I'm really jealous cuz for the longest time I've wanted one.
I've always viewed Vettes as big brutal machines. BMW's make their power in a very refined way. Elegant, smooth, classy. Like an agile running back or receiver. Not really noticed for speed until you put the hammer down.
Vette's are like the 375 lb line sauntering up to the bar for a drink. Everyone know's what he's capable of doing. Big, throaty rumble. Even a gentle acceleration away from a stop light, you can hear the rumble of V8 power!!
This car makes no attempt at being elegant. It's just walks up to the stoplight and challenges anyone to "beat me".
Oh yeah!! Have fun!! :redspot
LamboBuilder 04-25-2005, 07:33 PM Congratulations! I just saw a Z06 tonight with the license plate:
UD LOSE
Thought it was great.

well I created a name....imissmycorvette about 2 weeks ago
I started my account on CF years ago under "Aldo" but I can't remember the pw and my email has changed since then. I"ll probably make another account there with a better name then "imissmyvette", since I have a new one now.
Eli at Pelican 04-29-2005, 11:56 AM Don't worry about it... Get something you'll be happy with.... Or in my case I got the "other car" and kept the M3 :stickoutt
