View Full Version : Boo on Bimmerfest staff!
E36Eric 04-23-2005, 09:31 PM I saw so many stock looking cars on the lot while some nice ass modded bimmers sit outside on the street. Thats a load of bull. They dont even follow their own rules. And those mexicans "staff" were retards. One guy asked me how much i got my bimmerfest shirt for and I told them 10 bux. He started laughing and looked at his friend next to him serving me a hotdog and he was laughing, too. "We got our shirts for free and it says staff, too." Ok retards, they should give you a f'in shirt, youre working, duh! And plusssss.....I had a hat on hold since I left my wallet in the car and the retard that was suppose to hold it for me LOST it and couldnt find the hat. Good thing there was one left in the display case but it wasnt the color I wanted. Oh well... Other than that, it was "ok" this year. Two years ago was the best for me.

Sorry to heat it. All of the feedback that I received was very positive...
E36Eric 04-23-2005, 09:53 PM How was the Babe factor?
It was not that bad. Most of them had their boyfriends but overall, there were more females this year.
BMW318iS 04-23-2005, 10:26 PM How do you actually get to park inside the dealership? Is it on a first come- first serve basis, or do you have to sign up or something?
At the cafe in the back, I parked next to this crazy ass E46 with a Hamann wide body. Very clean. I thought that should have at least been in the dealership.
GoodOlSappy 04-23-2005, 10:34 PM yeah it was a good show lots of nice cars and some not
it was a good gathering of cars, but no offense my car deserves to be on the lot as opposed to some automatic e46 with clear corners. :( Oh well, still had fun, hopefully next year will be better orcestrated.
timers-88-325i 04-23-2005, 11:28 PM ya i didnt dig that too much as well. there were some stock dirty e30's it seemed with just like a euro plate and what not, that got in there, not to mention the many stock e30 m3's, although I guess those pass the test ;), but still. staff was crap, ill agree with this post. they didnt screen for shit it seems. didnt they expect the whole sd/oc/la thing rolling through a little after 9? i guess not
Stephen V 04-23-2005, 11:35 PM I noticed the same thing, I wish some of those cars would have been parked on the lot. :(
Misha S 04-24-2005, 12:24 AM uh i hate to sound mean to you guys but if you read the website for bimmerfest it was first come first on the lot. it was a selfpolicing policy for entrants. maybe not the fairest for highly modded cars but that was how it was. also all you had to do was get there early enough and you could have been on. not too hard if it was truely that important.
just my .02 is all.

i woke my ass up at 4:10 this morning. thanx for the info troll. and for your info they turned people away that got there early, then just randomly let people in.

Stephen V 04-24-2005, 12:36 AM Yup, that was my experience as well.
Hollywood Hamilton 04-24-2005, 12:38 AM How was the Babe factor?
There were SO many hot girls there. Especially the ones at the Brembo and West Coast Chaos girls (The hot brunette especially :eyecrazy ).
There was one that we did an install on her 04 M3...OMG She was really smoking hot.
Overall tho a good show. More Food options early on would be crucial next year.
chicks were good i thought too. my bro said there are better pickins at his hs. LMAO!!
speedinfusion 04-24-2005, 12:40 AM i agree, they did not do a good job of choosing which cars to put on the lot, for example, there were only 2 Estroil 4Dr M3's at the meet...neither of them on the lot, rare...explain staff :nono
and wat about that b. wang, anyone kidnap him?
well hopefully next year it will be more organized...this was my first meet and wasnt too bad...
bmwtransport 04-24-2005, 12:44 AM I was satisfied with the fest. I like stock BMW's so I didn't mind.
My car could of been there tho.
JB///M3 04-24-2005, 12:47 AM it was a ok meet... the cruise up there was rediculous, i almost got in 3 accidents!... some people drive way too crazy....
there were some pretty sweet ass cars, saw too many dakar yellow m3's though, and there were some plain jane e46 325's on the lot that had like a shift knob and clears... wow...amazing car... not... ans some ratty ass e21's.. i mean, my car is not as nice as some that were there, but it was damn better than some of those and im a humble guy!
just was not organized properly for my first time going IMO...
the drive was so effin long...lol...i almost fell asleep at the wheel...so maybe next year, if i go that is, i will get a hotel...
other than that, im sick of bimmers officially until tomorrow... haha.. later
Mblaster 04-24-2005, 12:49 AM Unfortunatly when you are trying to squeeze 10 pounds of poop in a 5 pound bag some isn't going to fit. I was lucky enough to squeeze in but I feel the pain for those who didn't. No event is going to run perfect. Overall I thought the cars were amazing. I've never seen so many fantastic BMW's. I'm sorry some folks were disapointed and I hope they weren't too pissed. I had a great time and the weather was perfect. Bimmerfest 2005
Stephen V 04-24-2005, 12:51 AM there were some plain jane e46 325's on the lot that had like a shift knob and clears...
LMAO, I was dissappointed that this occurred, I thought that the staff was well-trained this year to make sure this did not happen. I also noticed some not-so-nice 2002's that did not deserve to be on the lot and they were there unlike a LOT of nice e36 M3's from this forum... I was quite mad about that since I was not able to go look at the off-dealership parking lots :(
Mp0wer2384 04-24-2005, 02:01 AM dude, there were 0 (Zero) hot girls :eyecrazy
except my girl friend and yes I was all over her :devillook
btw: eric Saw your car today, very nice
This is jason the dude with the MA-Shaw cf hood/wing from MA auto in rosemead
phillyB///M3 04-24-2005, 02:11 AM Sucks to hear Eric, you should have told those retards off.
Damn, so it was really that badly organized this year?! I thought i read somewhere that they were going to be keeping the stock looking cars off the main lot. :confused
live2roll 04-24-2005, 03:19 AM thought the same thing as all of you...although i dont think the whole show was that bad because i enjoyed it verrrry much. just having all those bmw's together seeing all the roads packed with nothing but bmw's was a dream come true for me. they could have run the lot a little better, but i was more than pleased with what they did have on there. many, many beautiful bimmers of all kinds. cant wait for next yr!
Ben Carufel 04-24-2005, 03:58 AM What a bunch of pussies for complaining about who gets to park on the lot and who doesn't. Are you guys in that much need of reassurance that your cars are "all that" that you need to have them where everyone is going to walk by and see?
What does it matter if you park in the lot or not? What does it matter WHO gets to park on the lot? It doesn't matter. At all. You have no idea how much work Jon puts into organizing this event, yet you decide to center your comments on complaints?
How truly arrogant of you.
Next year when E36Eric hosts a BMW meet of this magnitude, we'll see what kind of comments he gets...
...oh wait, he won't host one, because he doesn't want to do all the work. He'd rather show up to an event that a true enthusiast like Jon has spent countless hours organizing and then criticize the staff.
Classy Eric, really classy.
The-Great-328ic 04-24-2005, 04:10 AM LOL, so I didn't miss much then?

Agreed. It was no big deal at all. I had a great time.
If you really wanted to get the whole experience, you had to walk a few blocks around the place. There were nice cars everywhere. It's just impossible to get all the nice ones onto the lot. People were altogether good about the honor system. There weren't any bad cars on the lot. If you guys wanted a spot so that everyone can check out your car that is likely not much different from anyone elses, then that is nice, but sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. I dare anyone to say that they did not enjoy themselves at the event. That's all that really matters. Being humbly stuck up won't fix anything.
I personally had an amazing time. There were an unbelieveable amount of cars, the drives were a blast, and I am definitely looking forward to next year.

I agree, seems like there are quite a few whiners making a lot of noise lately. Thanks to the organizers for putting in countless hours of hard work, i thought the event was pretty nice. lots of nice cars, hope to see you all next year.
amdspitfire 04-24-2005, 04:57 AM very dissapointed with the caravan and drive, you guys where such pussies

Hey asshat, you should just stfu because I did park inside and I am just speaking on behalf of the nice ass cars I saw parked outside.
very dissapointed with the caravan and drive, you guys where such pussiesWhat exactly were you expecting? :confused
318daily 04-24-2005, 10:06 AM How come there aren't more pics?
I don't care who's feelings were hurt, i just want to see the cars.
Where's the E30 crew? The E30 M3's? The E21's ?
Everyone stop ur bitching, sheesh. Just stay home next year, that's what I did.
Mblaster 04-24-2005, 11:35 AM Hey asshat, you should just stfu because I did park inside and I am just speaking on behalf of the nice ass cars I saw parked outside.
Pretty hard to fit 500+ incredible cars in such a small area.
e30sd 04-24-2005, 11:41 AM my car got in. that must have been a BIG mistake.
scottn2retro 04-24-2005, 11:50 AM Hi All -
Knowing that everyone just wasn't going to fit, Jon tried the 'honor' or 'volunteer' system. Some people thought it worked okay (from what I understand, some early arrivals chose to park off lot), but it sounds like it wasn't perfect by any means.
Unfortunately, I didn't even to get to walk around (I have tough job watch some race cars :D ), so I didn't get to see for myself, but we've got another year to think about how to improve it.
The race teams there were really impressed with how enthusiastic and informed the BMW fans are, so props to all of you. :redspot

Thanks Eric, it's great to see such an articulate and well thought out response from you. I'm glad you have so much to contribute to these forums.
I guess I jumped the gun with my first post there...I assumed you were just bitching, but I just didn't take into account the personal thank-you note you sent to Jon.
Get real, clown.

speedinfusion 04-24-2005, 12:14 PM ok to clear up any misunderstanding...bimmerfest was awsome...i have no complaint about the event, great time, lots of awsome cars on and off the lot..the only 3 things for next year that can be diff is maybe that 1) we have pace cars to lead the caravans from location to location...2) little bit more organization for lot parking..(not that i care cuz i doubt ill park up there) and 3) maybe have a little more activities...such as DIY's or like demos of products...
sendittoryan 04-24-2005, 12:20 PM I got there very early and was talked down to very much by the Mexican staff when I asked them where to park. They literally laughed at me when I asked them, and told me to go park somewhere else. Oh well, I still found parking right along the outside. I saw a lot of "vendor" cars that looked not so hot. Just my .02
This thead is a joke, Ben summed up most of the valid points.
Think about it this way, if someone took the time to knit you a sweater, to give you as a Xmas present, would you complain to them about what color it was, or would you thank them???
live2roll 04-24-2005, 01:58 PM LOL, so I didn't miss much then?
yeaaah you did...irregardless of what anyone says in this post you definitely did miss out i go to many many car shows throughout the year and not one can come close to competing with this. BIMMERFEST WAS AWESOME! :D
fliplap 04-24-2005, 02:25 PM Best Bimmerfest EVER.
People are going to complain about _something_ at any decently large event. They're usually the people who have never tried to organize any decently large event. I didn't drive 8 hours to Bimmerfest to see show cars, I came because I wanted to see hundreds upon hundreds of BMWs decend upon Santa Barbara. I view it as less of a show and more of a giant meet.
The raffle was outstanding, even though I didn't win anything I'd truely like to thank all of the sponsers that chipped in prizes and all of the people who contacted the sponsers.
As for the rally. The rally was awesome. It was the same route as last year, but must have been at least twice the size. I don't know exactly how the whiners would have organized that without running into liability issues. Anyone that organized a caravan out to bimmerfest knows how hard it is to keep 10-20 cars together, let alone several hundred. Sure there were some jerks driving, one of them (an e46 LSB M3)cut off a friend of ours driving him into the median and causing what is likely to be the death of a beautiful 30k mile Alpine white e36 M3. Hopefully the person that caused the accident will come forward (left the scene as we understand it, I'm speaking from a 3rd party account)
But all in all, given the size and complicated nature of an event of this type, I feel it was the best it could possibly be.
DancingBenzos 04-24-2005, 03:18 PM I dont think people are whinning. I think they are just giving their ideas on how to make the next one better. :) I had an awesome time especially on the drive up from LA :buttrock Although about half way through my driving i thought i might have passed the lead cars slowed down, saw a phoenix yellow M3 weaving up ahead an i sped up too. THen some we hit traffic everyone brakes but i look in my rearview and there is a Ford Taurus or Malibu going sideways into the center median. How did this accident happen?
ALSO I would like to thank the SB Police department for bieng very very kind to us. They did not give out one parking ticket in the lot i was in or on the cars i saw parked on the street.
One question what happened with the 6 Series and the E46 m3 that got pulled by CHP?
bmwe30is 04-24-2005, 03:23 PM How come there aren't more pics?
I don't care who's feelings were hurt, i just want to see the cars.
Where's the E30 crew? The E30 M3's? The E21's ?
Everyone stop ur bitching, sheesh. Just stay home next year, that's what I did.
Most of the E30's were parked off the lot :D
It was a good meet, my past 2 Bimmerfest's have been a lot better, but that's IMO.
I wasn't really phased about parking on the lot or not being able to, I just wanted parking haha. The parking situation has always been a small problem but if you've gone to Bimmerfest before, you should to get there early just for curb parking :)
As for the road rally, we just bbq'ed at the beach instead, from past experience I know it's hectic when you get 200+ cars on public roads, so my friends and I passed that up this year.
Thanks to all the event organizers, it was so nice of you organizing such a big event!! Even the cops were cool to us when we parked on the curb, taking the time to make sure we were legally parked.
- Jonathan
P.S. E30's rule :)

randywalters 04-24-2005, 03:24 PM It seems that some people who got there real early were disuaded from parking on the lot to give the Vendors a chance to arrive and get set up in their spots, then once that was done they opened it up for the entrants to fill up the rest of the spots.
Some of the staffers were just young dumbasses and didn't seem to know what to do and didn't have good people skills so that's something than can be improved next year (like better training and a clear understanding of who to let in and who to turn away). I saw lots of nice cars turned away and parked in the surrounding areas, while there was several junky or boring cars on the lot. No matter, there will always be people unhappy whether it's justified or not. All in all i had a great time and the good far outshined the bad.
Why do people keep mentioning the ethnicity of the staff? Does it matter that they were Mexican? If they were German and talked down to you would that have been okay?
DancingBenzos 04-24-2005, 03:43 PM I read over on Bimmerfest forums that BMW followed our pack. There was a E90 debadged E90 3 series, a E60 M5, and some camoed BMW. Damnit no i wish i was in the back of the pack. :mad
Sound Of Speed 04-24-2005, 03:44 PM I vote that next years should move back to the Earl Warren Fairgrounds, much better than packing thousands of cars AROUND a dealership
phillyB///M3 04-24-2005, 03:49 PM I got there very early and was talked down to very much by the Mexican staff when I asked them where to park. They literally laughed at me when I asked them, and told me to go park somewhere else. Oh well, I still found parking right along the outside. I saw a lot of "vendor" cars that looked not so hot. What does them being mexicans (or better terminoligy "latino") have to do with any of this? Maybe they were just idiots on the staff, dont make it a racial thing :nono .
Don Nguyen 04-24-2005, 04:00 PM Yea, I think (although I wasnt there) that parking in a big lot like how most meets are is better, that way all cars get a chance to be seen easier. I understand that the thing started with the dealership and whatnot, but overall the fair grounds may be a better way next year.
LeftCoastBias 04-24-2005, 04:45 PM i woke my ass up at 4:10 this morning. thanx for the info troll. and for your info they turned people away that got there early, then just randomly let people in.
kthnxbyeban
actually, you're sounding like an idiot right now...
no evidence this guy is a troll, and the staff did do their best to let everyone in that deserved to be in.
EVERYONE (except tv vil) woke their ass up at 4 to do this shit. the staff did their best to let the best cars in on the lot who got there early enough, and when it got to about 9:30 it was like "well, if you're not here, then wtf do you expect? lets fill up the lot"
so sorry if you're fully tricked out ride didnt make it on the lot- get your shit together and get there at an appropriate time if you want a spot in the front corner.
so kthxbyeyoureanasshat who should be a little more welcoming to new forum members.
attitudes like yours are what gives events like this a bad side. cheer the eff up and wipe your tears that your car didnt make it inside.
meh...
1st... the Misha has 2 posts. he's a noob and i will call out people no matter if their a noob or waste way too much time posting on bfc.
second you just reinforced the point I was making that for a period of time, they only let super modded cars in, then let whoever, then only let super modded cars in again. I got there at about 9:10 and they were turning everyone away pretty much.
The point I was trying to make was that in an event this big, the policies really need to be enforced. for example (sorry if this is your car) I saw several e46s 325/330s with only wheels or clear corners when tons of modded up e46 m3s were out around town. Also there was a black automatic e36 that had a crooked ass front end, spray painted bumpers, led m3 mirrors and was keyed on one side that was inside when there were plenty of nicer examples of e36s parked around town. Basically I'd rather see modded cars than beat to hell/cars with little to no mods. And i think most people would have a similar view.
Basically I had a really good time at teh event and was just offering a suggestion for next year and trying to point out to Misha what my experiance was. He was prolly lucky and got there durring the 10 min period at 9-9:10 that the staff just let whoever come in.
I could actually care less if my car was in, it would have been nice, but i'd much rather see other people modded cars on the lot since I see mine all the time. My gripe is with all the stockish or beat cars that made it in.
Thats all i'm going to say and you can take it for what its worth, I dont want to get this thread locked over something so stupid. so if you have something else to say, feel free to pm me.

well, my car isnt exactly stock, but its not the GTR m3 or the other crazy ish i saw there :wow
but i wasn't even planning to park on the lot- and didn't even try. mine isnt the cars you were talking about so i'm not offended by that. and i dont think that the staff had any other way of attempting to limit the lot to the best cars. the show cars were encouraged to be there an hour or more earlier than the start time, just so that they would get a spot where they were supposed to be.
after awhile, it was time to close up the lot and there would have been JUST AS MANY complaints if they closed the lot without filling it up... so when 9:30 rolled around... it was time to let whoever they could fit in...
but i do think someone with 2 posts should not be automatically discounted with their opinion, esspecially when it is not antagonistic, nor inflamitory- simply because they have a low post count.
there was several people i met at the event who were active posters on other forums and were invited to join ours.
thats all i mean... just give the guy a chance to prove he's a troll, or just a new forum member.
Deloriant 04-24-2005, 05:51 PM I agree, there needed to be a better system of admitting cars to the lot, but overall the event was awesome, and the drive was incredible.
AMD don't be jealous cuz I pulled on you on the freeway =)

You feel slow? Try going to an AMG meet where ever car runs 12s at 112mph+ traps. THen you will know what feeling slow is like. :confused Then add the fact that some of the AMGs have Kleeman/Brabus upgrades, and some are tuned by Evosport...then you will really know how i felt in my rents C-Class.
Misha S 04-24-2005, 06:36 PM thank you for backing me up.
i wasnt trying to piss anyone off just inform the board in general that the policy was not to let only modded cars on the lot. it was for the most part first there gets on.
personnaly i was there at 6:15 AM and sat in my car until 7 am when they started letting everyone onto the lot.
also as far as staff goes. most of them were volunteers and are not bimmer enthusiasts like us. they cannot be expected to know which car is rare or special. other than the obvious.
to adress the noob/troll deal. thats really a limited view of someone just based on their post count. i only recently signed up to this site but have been reading the forum for some time. with the recent purchase of my first bmw i figured i should sign up and start contributing a little. im also a member of bimmerfest.com and mye28.com so my post count on any of these sites will likely never be that big.
im still learning a lot about my car and other bmw's but thats cool. its part of the fun. dont assume anything skill wise about me as ive been a paid mechanic for several years now and work for mercedes now. i know a decent amount about cars. but by no means close to everything.
i love my car and learning about it. its just the few assholes that make the experience annoying.
sorry for the rant but i felt is was needed to clarify things.
misha
actually, you're sounding like an idiot right now...
no evidence this guy is a troll, and the staff did do their best to let everyone in that deserved to be in.

I see everything, including dead people
I think I'm pretty screwed in getting the S62 into a E36, S54 with SMG however, thats a bit more viable and alot easier, with a S/C on that also from ESS your over S62 hp power figures, but down on torque I think.
Edit -
Boost pressure: 6 PSI
Horsepower: 475/485 DIN (Stock 333/343)
Torque: 460 NM (Stock 365)
Deloriant 04-24-2005, 06:56 PM Bah...AMD and I had a perfect run, rolled from 80, probably hit 130, DEAD NECK AND NECK THE ENTIRE TIME.
Blah, then the next time when we were going to video it, I got stuck behind another bmw. Grr!
SamDaMan 04-24-2005, 07:28 PM thats funny cause i thought this Bimmerfest was seriously THE BEST THING EVER!!! All of my friends were BEYOND impressed and I think it's all about the attitude because I seriously don't think it gets much better than this!! The drive up was soooo much fun I feel sorry for some of you that got bored but I guess you're just not making the most out of it, although I do wish there were more Beema's around me as I was kinda ahead of most of em :cool
haha
I definitely feel sorry for anyone who couldn't make it out, be sure to come next year though to make it even better!!
BoostedE21 04-24-2005, 07:50 PM ans some ratty ass e21's.. i mean, my car is not as nice as some that were there, but it was damn better than some of those and im a humble guy!
I would rather see a ratty ass E21(s) then and E36 M3 that i can EVERYDAY of the week. :rolleyes
It was aight. At least I got in the lot. :buttrock
Oh yea, I probably live the FURTHEST south too. I live near TJ and got my ass up there early enough to park in the lot, but barely since I was 2nd to the last car. Hahaha.

i was driving by again just looking for a place to park outside- and they were like "you, with the CSL's... got a reservation?" and i was like, yeah? ... and they waived me right in... i was happy they parked me in the service bay, it was nice and shady (which was good cause i had a cooler for our lunch in the trunk) and not a conspicuous location... my car was rain spotted from the dribble from the little clouds friday.
plus, i dont have a "show quality" car anyways... i was just happy to have finally found a place to park!!
gotdinan? 04-24-2005, 10:22 PM the only thing to complain about is "B MAN or B whatever" winning all the goddamn raffle prizes....i mean damn he won like 8-10 times......lol im just kidding, bimmerfest was all gravy this year.....nothing to complain about here.
Stephen V 04-24-2005, 11:15 PM After thinking about it for awhile, I will retract what I said since, considering the size of the meet, it was run extremely well! I was very glad to have been a part of it, keep up the great work for next year.
tomas3314 04-24-2005, 11:26 PM First bimmerfest and had to say I had a GREAT time!!!! Great event and thanks to those who set it up. Getting what seemed like 1000 (literally) bimmers together in one place and from other states is one hell of a task. Thanks for putting it together.....
.....although that raffle "WAS" rigged :stickoutt , j/k.
Next year have a beer garden, then the rally...lol.

E36Eric 04-25-2005, 02:45 AM I made this post as an expression of my experience during this year's bimmerfest. If people want to personally attack me, fine. This is an internet forum and I'm no e-thug. This year's bimmerfest was well put together with the exception of some staff members. My concern about parking was the expression I saw on my fellow enthusiast faces who had well modified bimmers and drove around the block a few times and had to park on the streets. I can see their disappointment. I thought they deserved a spot considering I saw a lot of bone stock bmw's. The modified E21's were awesome and I enjoyed looking at them. My gripe was with the bone stock e36 and e46's that got a spot inside. I did not make this post to belittle the event as a whole. Jon and everyone else who put this event together, thank you for a job well done. I just noticed some quirks that can be improved. Next year, pick an enthusiast to be a bouncer for who gets to park inside. I think that a bimmerfest with all very modified bimmers would be more enjoyable, at least for me. I wouldnt even mind parking on the streets if I can gawk and spend more time looking at each modified car than to keep walking pass stock bmw's and finish my day in a couple of hours.

even with enthusiasts as bouncers (and mind you, the entrance worker knew enough to call out my CSL's...); it will do them no good, if they want t good spot- to not show up until after 9am...
the point still stands, if you WANT a spot on the front of the lot... get there EARLY.
simple concept- simple request- simple minds should be able to grasp

Hey LCB, were you part of the friday night State Street bar team Ty, myself, 2pak and 7-10 others were on? I did not catch all the names/handles of those in our group and you seem to know Ty pretty well.
golde30 04-25-2005, 03:25 AM Most of the E30's were parked off the lot :D

P.S. E30's rule :)

sendittoryan 04-25-2005, 10:12 AM What does them being mexicans (or better terminoligy "latino") have to do with any of this? Maybe they were just idiots on the staff, dont make it a racial thing :nono .
I said it because they were the ones I was describing. The rest of the staff I thought did a very good job. Don't call me racist, I didn't choose an all Mexican parking staff. That's just the way it was. Sheesh.

well, if it was all mexican- describing them as such isn't neccessary... you could say the parking staff just as well.
so sheesh... think about how your terms could be seen as racist/derogatory/inflamitory when there are lots of posters here that happen to be mexican as well.
remember, racism = an immediate TO and usually a lock. if you get a good thread locked- that pisses everyone off, mexican or not.

shragon 04-25-2005, 12:37 PM overall, i thought it was a very fun and cool event.
however, imho, although sb bmw/mb/porsche is a very nice facility, the event has really out grown that location. it just keeps getting bigger and bigger each year. i feel bad for those really nice cars that did not make it onto the lot. i got there around 8am, and drove around the block for 45 min or so. a lot of the staff members were clueless. if it wasn't for the help of some friends, i don't think i would've made it onto the lot.
anyway, i wouldn't mind paying a small car entrance fee in the future to see the event held at a larger location where all cars are able to participate and where it keeps everybody happy.

The fix for the parking thing should be this: if you have a show car and want in, the rule should be that you have to be there early. During that time, people at the gate should weed out cool cars from not-so-cool. People who actually know the difference should be doing the weeding, obviously. After 9am, if any spots are still open, it's first come first serve till its full. Simple enough it would seem.
Misha S 04-25-2005, 08:16 PM they have both roof parking (not so big but can hold about 70 cars)
and they also have underground parking but that is the detail area and also about 10 service bays so i dont think underground would be possible.

That's exactly how I thought they were going to operate it this year. I'm pretty sure that's how they described it also. I arrived two hours early, and was flat out rejected. I park my car, and then immediately see them letting in stock non-M E36's with primered body parts. That is why I am a bit sour concerning the situation.

Yes. The trunk, hood, and mirrors. They still had holes and indentations where the roundels were supposed to go. Completely stock looking otherwise. Must have been a "project car". I tried finding pics, but oddly enough, nobody chose to photograph the car... :dunno

m3mobbin 04-26-2005, 03:23 AM The point I was trying to make was that in an event this big, the policies really need to be enforced. for example (sorry if this is your car) I saw several e46s 325/330s with only wheels or clear corners when tons of modded up e46 m3s were out around town.
I hope your not talking trash about my ride, because I have a back e36 with led mirrors and a crooked front end :) I don't think your ride is half as nice as mine though...
I agree that they should have more strict regulations for the cars coming in next year. Noone drives to see stock cars, or stock cars with nice rims...

Parking has been an issue at Bimmerfest since Year 3. That was about the time that the event started to out-grow Cutter BMW and SHOULD have taken over the rest of the lots there. Last year at the Fairgrounds was nice for seeing all the cars, but the vendors didn't like it as much. In order to keep it free for all of us BMW folk driving in from all parts of the US, the organizers had to ask the vendors to fork over some $$$. This made it so that they weren't AS willing to donate prizes for the raffle. This year, with the event back at the dealership where there was no over-head, the vendors were allowed to come for free, but asked to donate what they could. THIS is why $6k+ was generated from the raffle for a great cause. And according to Jon (who joined us for brunch on Sunday morning) there are sponsors that would not have come this year if it was at the Fairgrounds again (some that have been there from Year 1 and those that hadn't showed before).
Jon has said that some things are in the works for parking next year. There has already been some talk with the local police about shutting down part of Hope St so that the off-lot parking can be organized, BMW only, and viewed easily by all...but no promises yet. But Jon is a very resourceful person and will not let us down (although pleasing everyone is next to impossible).
As for my "ratty-ass" e21 getting on the lot, it was part of the ORGANIZED group of e21's that are all considered classics by Jon's definition. The ground rules he set up stated classics, show cars, and heavily modified cars to be let on in a first come, first admitted fashion. We arrived shortly after 8am, and I WAS almost turned away, even though I was right on the heels of the other e21's. My car isn't as shinny as most (hell, it was probably the dullest paint job there with no wax and next to no clear coat left), but it gets the job done for autoX duties. It isn't a show car, but rather something that is driven harder than most of you will EVER attempt. If Bimmerfest were just a clean car contest, then yes, my car has no place on the lot. But it is about BMW enthusiast getting together and spending time with each other...no matter what they drive. I think maybe some of you have forgotten that.....

I think maybe some of you have forgotten that.....
i hope you didnt think that i meant your car should not have been on the lot...
i mean, where else would we congregate?? :D
shragon 04-26-2005, 12:04 PM i was there at 8am, and saw stock cars on the lot already. the reply from the staff was they were part of the venders or a car club that got special privileges.
looks like for 2006 they may be planning something different: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95783

yeah, the vendors have the right to throw on their cars to show what upgrades they have done, or can do for advertisements- even if it's only slight modding and still stock looking...
they are the financial backing for stuff like this... so we cant complain :dunno
I like how you said I hope you're not talking trash about your car then right after you say your car is better. I gues you're turning this into a my dick is bigger than yours contest. No offense but an auto 325 is not worth modding at all. 5 speed or bust man.... And i'm pretty sure you didn't see my car because if you had you wuold have noticed the lack of mods bought of ebay and my fresh coat of paint. My car looks like your car would have if you'd done everything right and not cut corners to save money.
And no I was not reffering to your car, I was acutally refrencing a car that was parked where the service entrance was.

330 HRE 04-27-2005, 11:33 PM With 328s being OBDII..the only thing that is worth of upgrading to make massive power is Jim Conforti Cam Kit.
325s are more better to tune, obdi isn't hard to tune are obdii.
If you look at M3s...why are 95 m3s so desirable...b/c its easiest to tune and screw with...not 96-99.

LOL, nice classification there. It's ALWAYS the 3er owners... Maybe because they represent 90% of the BMW tuning world?
uberpanzer 04-28-2005, 01:54 AM I would say we should get back on topic, but the topic was all jacked in the first place. Thanks, haha no, it's painted black. A lot of people think it's glass too. I've been looking for a CF moonroof that is still functional however. No luck so far.

Im wondering why this thread is all jacked? Its my opinion and its what I experienced this year at bimmerfest. I made this thread and thats how I felt. Maybe you'd be happier if I titled it "Boo on bimmerfest parking staff and the two retards who worked there." Is that better? I'm glad Jon is aware of the parking staff now. I'm sure someone would make a complaint about parking if I didnt start one. I'm not clowning at Jon for his hard work. I admit that bimmerfest is a pretty cool event. I cant wait to go next year.

And MY FAVORTIE part: You've never even seen my car in person, so how do you even know if yours is any nicer? lmao

Who are you trying to prove this to? All the people you just called idiots? :confused
Ben Carufel 04-29-2005, 09:57 AM Can't we all just get along? You both drive Non-M E36's, which at the moment are pretty much at the bottom of the BMW barrel (besides E30's) as far as value goes. Yet you two are fighting about them like it's life and death. Get over it guys. Agree that you have different tastes and then agree to disagree...and appreciate each other as enthusiasts who both feel that they have made/are making their car into what they think is the best E36 they for them.
Want to know the reason I didn't go to Bimmerfest, besides the fact that I haven't been home in several weeks (and won't be for several more weeks) due to my work schedule...here ya go:
A meeting of BMW owners is a great thing. Some of the Z3-Club drives I've been on are great. Spirited driving, but nobody does stupid stunts like what has been described in other threads about Bimmerfest. Why? The simple answer is that they're more mature and, generally, older.
Bimmerfest has always appealed to me becuase it gives me the opportunity to take a peek at some incredible BMW cars...a PTG car perhaps, or Jon Holder's E36 track monster...but it's just not worth it, to me, to deal with a million little kids running around talking shit and pulling the "my car is better than your car" thing. And then the drive...oh, how could I forget the drives. I haven't ever taken one of my own cars on a Bimmerforums drive or a Bimmerfest drive...that's taking a big chance. Stupid stuff always happens because the folks involved are too immature to drive responsibly and enjoy the simple pleasure of being in a line of 300+ other BMW's...something not many enthusiasts get to do in their lifetime.
So, in short, while the concept of Bimmerfest is great and I applaud Jon Shafer for all the hard work and countless hours he's put into the project, I think it's too "young" of an event. That is, if you had Hot Import Nights on one end of the scale and BMWCCA Oktoberfest on the other, it's safe to say that Bimmerfest would be well over towards HIN.
Hopefully the demographic will advance and the current majority audience at Bimmerfest will grow up a bit, but there will always be newer, younger, foolish Bimmerfest attendees, and they're the ones that on the whole have to be watched out for.
But never forget to thank Jon Shafer at any opportunity you folks have, because he's the only reason Bimmerfest is as big and (I hear) as fun as it is.
And please, try to be more mature when you're in a group environment. Bimmerfest isn't lunch hour in the quad at high school.

Synthetic Darkness 04-29-2005, 05:58 PM I wish I never got rid of my E30. At least E30 owners will admit that we're poor and our cars are slow.

Hahaha! That's why E30/2.5l E34 owners rule. That's really cool that Lawrence's car might make it into the mag. I'll definitely have to pick up that issue, whenever it comes out.

what are you talking about???
the e30 is the GREATEST SPORTS CAR EVAARR!!!!!!111111oneoneone
right?

Duh...what's wrong with you?? What is to question? They are only slow compared to jet planes and rocket ships, that's what he was getting at.
uberpanzer 04-30-2005, 01:55 AM You both drive Non-M E36's, which at the moment are pretty much at the bottom of the BMW barrel (besides E30's) as far as value goes.
BITE YOUR TONGUE!!!! Everybody knows that e21's hold this GLORIOUS position, followed closely by the eta powered e28's. And you think you know BMW's!!! HA! :stickoutt
Oh, and if memory serves, you HAVE been on a bf.c drive. But whatever, we got the point.
Anyway, you all need to bow to the awesomeness that is the e30....since all your bases are belong to e30!!!!! But watch out for those e21's....they're coming up fast (and leaning a whole bunch if it's mine, and who knows if I can actually stop or not....)
dallasfan824 04-30-2005, 02:17 AM What a bunch of pussies for complaining about who gets to park on the lot and who doesn't.
I have to agree. I have been an event planner for a long time. And people complain and have no idea how much work and planning goes into an event. Yes, Bimmerfest could be better. Anything could be better. But that costs money and time. This is a free event with a free lunch. I thought it was great. I loved the cars (except for that pos E21) and had a great time. And I parked at Rob May and I saw a ton of nice cars walking their and back. Didnt matter if they were on the lot.
If anyone thinks they can do a better job, let them have at it or at the very least call Jon and offer him your time.
Estoril ART 04-30-2005, 03:25 AM There were SO many hot girls there. Especially the ones at the Brembo and West Coast Chaos girls (The hot brunette especially :eyecrazy ).
There was one that we did an install on her 04 M3...OMG She was really smoking hot.
Was it the silver M3 at the umnitza booth getting DDE's or whatever the hell it was installed? The owner of that car was very fine indeed, she was really hot.
Ben Carufel 04-30-2005, 02:18 PM Oh, and if memory serves, you HAVE been on a bf.c drive. But whatever, we got the point.
That was years ago...I was young and stupid, and didn't even own a BMW yet!
That was so long ago, it was the drive that Tim & Kim met on! No joke!
And I wasn't driving, I rode with you and Jim Powell or someone.

If memory serves you went on the drive 2 years ago that met by the coaster and went out 94E into the desert .. that was long after K&T were together - this was like '03 I think.
e30sd 04-30-2005, 09:30 PM kim and tim met on a palomar drive in like july/august '02, right before neowerkes.

Incorrect. I never went on that drive...I've never met you to the best of my knowledge.
I know for sure I never went on a BF.C drive to the desert.

That woulda been the one, because I bought that white E30 from Jim August 11, 2002.

Geez Ben, age must be taking a toll on your memory. We've met more than once. First time at an autox at the Q in maybe 02, and then again at this meet ... or else, who is the person in the center of this pic?
http://members.roadfly.org/xoc/carufel.jpg
Ben Carufel 05-01-2005, 04:33 PM Hmm...ok, then we have met...because that's me and Neil (neil_rat) in the pic.
However, I think that was in the parking lot at the meet where everyone met near the Belmont rollercoaster...which we didn't end up going on because Neil's car had issues that day.
e30sd 05-01-2005, 05:59 PM that was the jeff's run, july 20, 2003. we took the 94, thru campo, barrett junction, then looped back sunrise highway, thru julian, then scripps poway, and ended up at pat and oscars in CV.

Was it 3 days later that my parts car came to be? Ah, the memories. :rolleyes
uberpanzer 05-03-2005, 06:22 AM ...I loved the cars (except for that pos E21)...
Be looking for that POS e21 next year when I park it on the lot AGAIN. :stickoutt Classics rule, esp when they have autoX wins under their belt. But I'll at least wash it next time.
Things should be better for parking next year....since the dealership is going to know what worked and what didn't this year. They didn't get as much advice from Jon on areas like that as they SHOULD have, but also didn't know they were going to cause issues. Oh well, live and learn!
...I remember watching Neil and Ben sitting there, looking like they were waiting for everyone else to leave on the drive. Wasn't sure if he was going to take up the rear, not go, or what. Had I known there were car problems involved, I woulda seen what I could do to help. But oh well.
Hey, did Neil ever get his Lotus? |
