Just bought a 98 740i. Very new to BMW and got a little lost in my research. Seems that there is an ennormous amount of info out there but I can't get a complete picture from anybody. Some suggest cup kits, some just spings, some shocks, UUC/H&R/Eibach/etc...

Please give me some advice as to what is the best way to lower my car and what size tires/rims/offset on the rims. Would really help to see the pics if you have any.

I really like as little if no gap as possible and tires as flush with the fender as possible, with no rubbing (is it possible?).

I really want to do it right so PLEASE help me.

Lots of this info is out there if you use the search feature.

That's the thing Dave, I do you use the search but I get these bits and pieces of information and can't seem to locate the whole package. Maybe I'm just not doing it right. In any case, I just need help.

I researched... I went with UUC springs and Billstein (sp?) HD's all around. Pic in my signature below. I have more if you want, just send me an email. I also added a Strongstrut front tower brace. My wheels are custom mounted 18" ADR Sterling - Diamond Cut. I love the way my car rides and handles.

There are many options and combinations, this is just one...from your friendly Big Dumb Guy

Thank you Bear, your car looks great. How much of a gap would you say you have above the front tire?

Bear, Ok thank you. BTW How long do you have the HD Bilstiens with lowered springs? According to Bilstien lower spings should be used with Bisltien Sports shocks, have you noticed any problems over time with the HDs? any changes in the ride?

ALL,

What do you guys think of Bilstien Heavy Duty shocks with H&R sports (lower) springs combo?

Are UUC springs any better or worst than H&R?

Who makes/designs spings for UUC?

Has anyone used "Bilstien Touring Class Shocks"???

Unless Bilstein has changed its product offering, only the HD's are available for the 740i. You can poll the many members on the board and you may receive different answers on the the Shock spring combination. What it will all come down to is a matter of your tastes. Both UUC and H&R produce very good springs. To ultimately make a selection, I suggest you ride in vehicles equipped with the setup you are looking for. Some have stated that the H&R is too stiff for their tastes while others swear by it. The UUC springs can be purchased from UUC Motorwerks (http://www.uucmotorwerks.com) . I have the UUC and Bilstein setup on my sport and are very pleased with it. If you have specific questions on the UUC springs you should contact Rob at UUC who I am sure will answer any of your questions. He is also an E38 owner and on the boards. Here are a couple of pics of my setup:
