Hi,
The passenger side lowbeam xenon light on my 740il flickers a little when turned on and stops completely after that. I get a check lowbeam lights message in the odometer display too. Does that mean i will have to get a new bulb or is it just loose connections. I don't have any experience with xenon lights so I don't know what could go wrong.
If i have to get a new one they cost around 130$ online for one bulb. Can I get it any place elese like auto-zone? If yes then what do i ask for? (like temeprature to match the other light). Can i fix it myself or is it complicated.
Thanx

The OEM Xenon lamp is a Phillips D2S Xenarc lamp. The Kelvin temp is 4300k.
They are not difficult to replace. $130.00 per lamp is about right.

thanx for the reply.
but is it for sure the bulb and not any of the electrical parts or wiring that is causing it to flicker and then turn off ?

The EXACT thing happened to me last month. It is your bulb. I wound up buying 2 brand new ones. I'll sell ya my good one for $50 if ya want it. Otherwise, do as i did and buy 2 new ones and keep the one good one ya have for a spare. PM if you want my spare. Stu

Go to www.e38.org and look for headlight removal or cromeline. It will show you how to remove headlight so that you can get to the bulb. About flicker it could be loose wire that screws on bulb.

May be a loose wire but i'll bet ya its the bulb. Only way to be absolutely sure is to switch the two bulbs. If the problem follows the bulb, there ya have it.

Hi,
I followed the chromelining guide on e38.org I got through most of the part till the removing the side light. But i could not get to the underside screws as mine is a 2000 740il with the "U" kinda plates under the lights instead of the straight ones on the 98 which slide towards the center of the car.
anyways i managed to get the plate off under the lights but there is still another hard plastic peice and could not see any screws. The only screw i could see is under the lights which is impossible to get to without getting under the car and removing the undercovers. Is it really that much of work just to replace a blown out light ?
anyone have any tips or experience with removing the headlights of a 2000 740 and replacing the xenon light.
thanx
