I am looking to get on road america this year for my first time and would like to do a drivers school but all of the schools seem like they are around 400. And since I do not want to pay that amount I was wondering if anyone knew of a Test & Tune time they have or just a single day event that does not exceed around 150 dollars. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Aside from the Autobahn club, I think that Road America is the most expensive track in the area. The Windy City BMWCCA chapter is running there in just a few days, but I think they're ~$400. Good luck.

RA is really expensive in excess of $25k to $30k per weekend so getting track time for less than the $400 per that Windy City events go for is really tough.

To the best of my knowledge, RA doesn't run test and tune nights. This isn't a mom-n-pop track like Gingerman and Grattan.

You're best bet is to try Windy City BMW, Badger BMW, NASA, or the MFBA/Speedseekers groups. Expect to pay ~$350-400 for a weekend.

Assuming you have an actual race car and a license, you could check out test days before SCCA weekends...they are usually fairly affordable.

try searching for the alfa romeo club, f body club, corvette club, and badger bimmers. I doubt you'll find something < $200, but probably something reasonable. If you don't have previous track exp, I wouldn't recommend a test & tune. Racers & Street cars don't play well - I know from experience

If you have never been to a driving school you have no business going lapping at an open track day at Road America. You probably won't be able to find an organization that would let you do so on their insurance. You have to learn to crawl before you can walk . . .

You should attend a touring event, held during lunch on race weekends. For $30-75 you can drive on the track for 30-45 minutes. There is a pace car and passing may or may not be allowed. Some sessions are slow, others may allow you to see triple digits.

I do have track experience and would like to experience road america. I didnt know to have a test n tune you had to mom n pap so thanks on that one. And I dont mind paying 400 if that is the going rate but wanted to know if there was something cheaper or a one day that anyone knew about for around half the price. Thanks

Windy City's event at the end of April is $395 for 2 days. Badger Bimmers' event in September (still called Oktoberfast) is probably going to be close, in the $350-400 range, also for 2 days (or 3 days if you do the Friday lapping day).

See http://www.roadamerica.com/2005/races_clubs.htm for a listing of most of the club events. Contact the individual clubs for their rates. If you can find a one day event, it should be around $150-200.

Edit-there is a one day Porsche Club school 5/7, but that is $270 for one day. I can send you the application if you want it, but that is a bit pricey for a single day . . .

Least expensive I know of is the Milwaukee PCA. One day $230 if you sign up 21 days in advance. $270 after that. This year the event is May 7, generally about that time every year.

The Badgerbimmer event is 9/23 through 9/25 this year. The Friday lapping day can be accessed separately from the sat./sun. DE. However unless the organizers know you and you have been signed off by an instructor it is highly unlikely you would be allowed to run on Friday. As it is for the weekend school no matter you're experience you will be assigned an instructor until sign off, particularly as you have no Road America experience. I believe last year the charge was $395 for non-instructors.

Road America is big and fast, it is great fun to drive!
