Ok folks, I'm again looking for the a better R comp tire. I've tried V700s (groove of death city even with flips and running backwards) and now running Dunlops. I ran 235/17 on the V700 and 245 on the Dunlop. The Dunlops are not anywhere as sticky as the Khumos and don't give lots of feedback. How about RA-1s? Do they need to be shaved? How about longevity, feedback, feel??

RA1s are the way to go...shave them for sure and they'll last for 5+ DE weekends if you take care of them. Flipping isn't a must but you want to keep good pressures, 40 hot generally. If you get abnormal wear then you have a pressure or camber issue.
www.thetireshoppe.com has the best prices, roughly $700 shaved and shipped.

I'm assuming you mean V700 Ecsta, not V700 Victoracer. I'd try the Victoracer. It's a far more durable tire, and just as sticky as the Ecsta.
The Victo is on par with the RA-1, maybe a little faster, but much cheaper generally.

Thanks, both of you, for your responses. I've considered the Victos and may go that route as they have the 245/17 size and I don't think the RA-1s do. I'd be interested in people's thoughts on the 235 RA-1 vs. the 245 Victo...

I don't believe there's a 245/40/17 Victo (the 245/45/17 will be on the tall side)...your other option is the 255/40/17 Victo, which lots of people are running...

The Toyo comes in both 235 and 255/40R17.

So, it looks like these are the choices (don't want to roll the fenders yet):
RA1 235/40-17
Victoracer V700 245/45-17
Victoracer V710 245/45-17
Ecsta V700 235/40-17
Ecsta V700 246/40-17
Anybody feel like ranking these??
Dunlop 245/

The /45 profile won't fit on your car without a suspension that rides high or extensive rolling or both.

So.....
RA1 at 235 vs. Ecsta V700 at 245???

what he said.
255/40 Victos are about 1/2 inch shorter than 245/45s.
Victos are more than 1 seconds faster than Toyos at a larger autox.
Ecstas V700 have gotten mixed reviews, and they can wear funny.
Victos last forever, and flipped can last 80 runs...though they start to
get hard after 40-50....so shave 'em

Thanks for the info. I don't know if 255's will fit without rolling the fenders. 245s are tight.

Except there is no Ecsta Victoracer. It's just the Victoracer V700.
I'd run the 255/40/17 Victo, no question. They last forever and will work better at an autocross than the RA-1 (which is also an excellent tire, but more expensive).
