View Full Version : Best brakes for stock rotors?
Md750 04-20-2005, 09:02 AM BTW, I tried doing on search on this and didn't really find a definitive answer.
I'm looking for brake pads for my stock rotors. I'm not yet ready to do the uuc bbk (which i really like after driving Omar's 750), but i want an easy mod that will help me with this damn brake dust. :mad I wouldn't mind better performance, but I rarely drive my car that hard...the most important things to me are:
1-Absolutely no squealing
2-less brake dust
3-performance
TIA

actually that's what i'm looking for. when i did searches, people were changing both rotors and pads at the same time...but nothing that i could find where the person was JUST doing pads.
thanks for the response tho
I installed Mintex Reds on my stock rotors and even though I applied a lot of anti-squeal stuff on the pads and let it sit overnight, the squeal was unbearable, mainly at low speed slow-downs and stops. The dust was greatly reduced, but each corner was "singing it's own tune". I took the Mintex out and replaced with Pagid. Noise is better (less) but the dust is back.
I am getting a set of ceramic pads for the front. That SHOULD kill both birds.
Good luck!

Rob Levinson 04-20-2005, 05:37 PM Akebono ProACT ceramic pads will give you a virtually no-dust (that's actually a myth - all pads dust) that will really work in performance applications.
Buy them at TireRack, www.tirerack.com

Md750 04-20-2005, 09:28 PM ok...anything else? i guess my only choice to completely satisfy are:
-Akebono ProAct ceramic pads

Rob,
I only see front brakes on the website for our car. do they have rear fitments too?

Hmmm... appears not.
But considering how much less the rear brakes do (how much brake dust do you see on your rear wheels?), you can use a similar pad. The Satisfied standard pad works quite well and is reasonably quiet. I've experimented with those and found that I was "satisfied" with their performance given the expectations of a standard-type pad.
As for "our car"... please stop moving the mirrors and seat, it bugs me to move them back when I drive "it". :D

actually, i do get quite a bit on the rears too...not as bad as the fronts of course, bad bad enough. but that could be that i don't wash tem very often:(
does your memory not work with the new seats? did you ever wire them correctly to clear the seat belt and air bag error?

Stock brakes, dirty car... sheesh, I should revoke your 750 owner status right now. Go pull out eight coil packs, you only deserve four cylinders. :D

Error codes cleared, still working on the memory function.

how did you do it...please tell me you have a wiring diagram that i can use? my sport seats were from a 2000 and the harnesses wasn't plug-n-play so i had to splice them together myself
n20addict 04-21-2005, 10:57 AM slightly on the same topic.........this weekend im gonna pull the wheels off and check my brake pads.........i know my rotors have a big lip on the edge, so ill be ordering replacements, but not sure if i need pads too.
how thin should the brake pads get before i replace them?
kadaf 04-21-2005, 11:55 PM I get alot of brake dust on my rear wheels than my front. People look at my wheels and think that I drive on reverse alot.
Md750 04-22-2005, 10:32 AM Rob,
the odd thing about Akebono's is on the website they show (pictured) both front and rears
