I have just removed all of the original non-working A/C components out of my 72'.

What is a viable option for these cars? OE type Behr, Frigiking, or an aftermarket system? I will more than likely do something next summer, not this one, since car is in pieces. Just wondering what folks have done out there, and what works well for the money.

I know their was some company that made both classic and custom ac units. It was like classic air or vintage air, or something along those lines. Sorry I can't remember, but I have heard a few people have used them.

I'm collecting the parts to do an a/c in my '02. I installed a Vintage Air unit in my '68 Camaro and it turned out really nice. Its a 134a unit and uses a Sanden compressor. I've gathered for the 2002 so far a Behr center console and e30 318i a/c bracket. The rest I'm going to assemble with parts from the Vintage Air catalog. I plan to eliminate the factory heater an blower motor as the Vintage Air units have both heater, a/c and defrost in one compact unit.

Good advice.

I have complete system, except for compressor, it is all original Frigiking. I need to get my hands on a compressor and test all of it before moving forward. i just figured aftermarket might be better system.

Anyone have a compressor for sale? Can i use one from a 320, or 318< or does it have to be from 2002?

Your best bet regarding the compressor would be to use a new Sanden rotary compressor. An adapter is sold to use the Sanden compressor with the existing York compressor bracket. Can't recall where they are sold, but someone might chime in with a source.

The York piston compressor was notoriously heavy and sapped a lot of hp.

I'd try Vintage Air. They have plenty of retro fit brackets available.
