View Full Version : To wait or not to wait....that is the question
asnpcwiz 04-19-2005, 06:24 PM Alright fellas, here's where I need your help. My wife has given me the OK for an M3. I was considering buying it end of this year or early next year...getting an 06 model of course. Well, my biggest dilemma is...should I get the E46, or wait for the newly redesigned M3 that will come out mid 2006 :help ?
Here is my problem, I love the design of the E46, and I'm not too sure I will like the styling of the new one (E90) coming out (but it may grow on me). But, I do know I'll want the speed, engine, and new perks they install on the new M3's. But if I wait for the new M3 to come out, I definitely don't want to get the first year run, so I will have to wait until MY2007...basically I'll drive my crap car to the ground while the wife drives the X5. I'd like to get a new car soon, but waiting 2 years for something is an alternative. Anyways, what do you guys think I should do...I'm going to start a poll that I can't even answer myself. Please give me your input.
Sorry, forgot to add, leasing is out of the question. I 'm not a big fan of leasing and if I got something, I'd rather put my money into a car I will own.
maxse01 04-19-2005, 06:50 PM It will be late 07 before we even SEE an E92 M3.
I say go for the E46...you'll love it!!!
This is my second one, and i know i will not get rid of this car for a LONG time. :D
///M3ryder NY 04-19-2005, 09:50 PM get it now!
dawgeatdawg 04-20-2005, 01:05 AM It's going to be a long ass time before the second year of the e92 m3s come out...buy now :buttrock
jake1sir 04-20-2005, 01:39 AM what they said, the new m3 will be here at the earliest summer of 07 from all the investigation i did.....
i just came home with my new m3 today, you should see the perma-grin on my face, ear to f'n ear!!!
PJ Steamboat 04-20-2005, 02:41 AM I know you said you’re against leasing but that seems like the most sensible option, either that or buy the e46 and sell it when the e90 M3 comes out.
PDWebb 04-20-2005, 11:54 AM I started a thread on this yesterday. BMW is ending production of the M3 in the coming months, possibly earlier than later. I say buy now all the way because this car will hold it's value, if not gain a bit with no new M3 in production for up to two years. Just my thoughts, but I don't think you will be dissapointed.

Yikes, even if this is true, I don't know if I'm ready to buy now. My wife and I have our money tied up in some investments and I don't know if I'm ready to drop a crapload more money. Crap...what to do, what to do?!? Thanks for the headsup though, I'll have to talk to the wife about this one.
You need to check out www.swapalease.com
Just take over someone else's lease. This way, you don't have to pay all that money up front for the drive off and you get to "test drive" the care for a couple years. If it's reliable and you don't like the E90, then, just buy the one your driving. If the one you get breaks down a lot, it's all under warranty and you just turn it in at the end of 2-3 years.
There are a lot of Porsches and M3's on that site. Some are pretty desparate to get rid of their cars.
Chuck 04-20-2005, 09:07 PM Yeah I just bought another one myself. I couldn't let it go by me, not with production ending. If the M2 gets built, that will be a lot closer to our current M3 than the fat pig they are calling the e90 M3. I don't think the M2 is getting the green light from BMW AG, though.
I'm selling my 2002 if you are interested in a better deal than a new purchase.

How do you know this?
asnpcwiz 04-22-2005, 03:56 PM That's a good question, what are your sources bro?!?!
builder 04-22-2005, 04:31 PM Get the E46. No one really knows what the new one will be like or when it comes out, and even then you got another year to wait unless you want a 1st model.
ruskozak 04-26-2005, 01:48 AM I decided to buy the current bmw m3 instead of waiting for the next m4 to come out b/c even after the first year the cars still usually have a lot of bugs that need to be fixed. I just purchased it and awaiting for it to arrive in two weeks, the dealer told me that it was gonna be one of the last ones of the production line, from what i know if you want to order one to be built you might be already too late. So good luck, and by the way if you are really worried about the m4 having more power there's always the option of Dinan Supercharger option in three months thats coming out finally if stock wont satisfy you.

Well I have a build scheduled for the second week of may with my dealer right now, so that is not exactly true. I don't think anyone knows yet. :rolleyes
ruskozak 04-27-2005, 07:15 PM If so good luck, if not hope you can get one off the lot. I was told otherwise by my dealer. Maybe its just my dealership cause i know they dont have any more slots for people to order them. I did hear that they will be ending production very soon, make sure then youre dealer knows what he's talking about so you dont miss out. Make sure youre wife doesn't hate it either, cause i had too many older buddy's wive's who made them get rid of it as soon as they either had a kid or got hitched. So be carefull.
Zeeshan 04-27-2005, 09:31 PM Decisions decisions. Im on a similar boat...I have been in love with M3's since the beginning. I'm 22 now, and I'll be able to actually afford one by the end of this year :) Now i'm thinking...the new M3's that are going to release are going to be a big bad V8 with 400 HP....and damn do the new 3's look sweet. i love the placement of the navi screen and the idrive system. I got a brochure in the mail the other day about the new 3 series, and i fell in love..and im sure when the M3 is released it'll have more of a sporty look to it, and will be absolutely amazing. So do i wait it out for the one im in love with now, or do i buy this model because i cant wait? either way, i can't buy until the end of this year...but if i can make it through that long, i feel i might be able to wait it out for the new model, especially since by then we'll have more news on it.
I'm leaning towards waiting personally, because i just love the new 3. I'll be gunning for Alpine White with Tan Leather....unless something super sexy is released in the new model.
mbanks21 04-28-2005, 11:41 AM The current M3 will be made through 2006 so you have plenty of time. Like a few people said we wont even see the new M3 until probably late 2007. Im probably gonna wait until later this year and buy a new 2006 Estoril M3 vert

absolutely, im sure it'll be released as a 2007 model, and i look forward to it. I know theres been a lot of E90 bashing stylewise around here, but i think its beautiful. Im really leaning towards driving my mistubishi lancer POS until the 07 M3...for me personally, i feel it will be worth the wait. And if for some reason, ive got the cash ready to go and im itching to spend it, i might go with like a 02-03 M5...but thats a slight chance.
Im really willing to wait it out so i can be one of the first here in southern California to have myself the E90 M3. Hopefully its going to be everything i've dreamt about and more.
97estorilM 04-28-2005, 09:06 PM Ok I have a simple question. Is the new M going to be An M2, an M3 or an M4. I read this hold thread and different people called it different things. Which one is it!! Also E90 or E92. :confused
Never read so many differnt names for the same car. :eyecrazy
mbanks21 04-29-2005, 08:54 AM Theyre all going to be M3's. I know they abandoned the M4 name and I dont know about the M2 name but I dont see it happening because theres no 2 series. E90 is the sedan, I believe E91 is the coupe and E92 is the vert. If Im not mistaken. Which I dont think makes sense.
Chuck 04-29-2005, 01:37 PM Thats the first I've heard about separate designations for the coupe and cab. I'd be surprised if they did that. Of course, I was surprised that they had the designation E36/8 or whatever for the MCoupe.
There is a 2 series - its the coupe version of the 1 series. I think.
Actually, I think I'm insane now. :confused
mbanks21 04-29-2005, 05:47 PM M3 has too much name recognition for them to call it an M4 so I doubt theyll do the same with the 1-2 series. Than again, they do have the 5 series 4 door and the 2 series 6 bought in M form so what the hell do I know
Jiberwacker 05-17-2005, 05:49 PM I spoke with BMWNA who confirmed there WILL be a MY2006 M3. The new model M3 will have three types, the coupe, vert and 4-door saloon. Do not expect the new m3 for another TWO years until fall 2007 as a MY2008. The M4 badging has been abandoned.
