i was on vacation for a month this winter in Texas i bought a subaru legacy for $200 from a dirtbag climber friend of mine.. the thing ran great and i sold it for $200 when i left ... I really miss having a high(er) clearance AWD station wagon type vehicle for rock climbing.

Anyone here have recommendations for a sub $1k beater car to get me around Flagstaff, AZ this summer? reliability will be key.

I'm thinking:

subaru wagon
volvo wagon (might spend more for a nice turbo model)
'87-89 4Runner
