Would like to install XM in my 05 330i. I've looked at the DIYs, but those use the aftermarket control units. Does the car's radio accept XM from the get go? Can I just install the XM receiver into the radio's CD changer input and control it from the radio itself? Thanks.

Check this out. When I was looking for satellite radio service, if I had gone with XM I would've bought this. Any reason for not going with Sirius? My dad has XM in his car, and the music is disappointing (they just got rid of the metal channel). I tried out Sirius for 3 days and the music selection was much better in my opinion.

No real reason for going XM over Sirius. My brother has XM and I was satisifed with what I heard. Bought the XM commander today and have Blitzsafe on the way. Antenna is already set, just waiting now for the module to come in.
You will need a Soundgate converter that hooks to the cd changer cable in your trunk. A pioneer XM receiver I think it is # GEX 900, and a pioneer antenna.
The instructions say the antenna should be on the roof but I just placed it near the upper edge of the trunk. Using the factory radio mode button will switch from radio-cd-xm. Works great. I bought my receiver off of ebay for about $40.00 and called XM radio and activated over the phone.
