View Full Version : Removing a steering wheel when ignition is locked

A local wrecker has just received a E30 with a M-Tec steering wheel in very good condition. Of course they do not have the keys, so does anyone know how to remove a steering wheel when the ignition is locked?

Put a big screw driver in the ignition and give it a good turn. if they don't have a key you don't really have any other choice.

Guess I need a bigger screwdriver as the largest one I had with me just bent when I tried this......

I dont know if you can get to the bolt which fastens the ignition to the steering column?

this bolt is only tightened once, and the the head breaks off.
so you would have to tap it out with a chizzle sp? or something.

then the steeringwheel and ignition would slide right off.
