A local wrecker has just received a E30 with a M-Tec steering wheel in very good condition. Of course they do not have the keys, so does anyone know how to remove a steering wheel when the ignition is locked?

DevInAz 04-13-2005, 10:27 PM Put a big screw driver in the ignition and give it a good turn. if they don't have a key you don't really have any other choice. markh 04-14-2005, 12:05 AM Guess I need a bigger screwdriver as the largest one I had with me just bent when I tried this...... luke318is 04-15-2005, 01:49 PM I dont know if you can get to the bolt which fastens the ignition to the steering column? this bolt is only tightened once, and the the head breaks off. so you would have to tap it out with a chizzle sp? or something. then the steeringwheel and ignition would slide right off. here's what it looks like from underneath: bolt: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v603/luuk318is/contact.jpg |
