First off, I just want to say, I am new and I have read about 20 threads so far and all I have to say is WOW!! You are all amazing.

Ok to my problem.

I just purchased, actually yesterday I got it, a used 1988 BMW 325IS. Very clean, and very nice. When I got the car, I didn't notice that the stereo said Code, on it. Not a big deal, the code was in the Owner's Manual, which I entered today. As soon as I did, I heard a very loud crackling and static come out of the speakers.

Then when I went to turn it down, I kept hearing the staticie crackling noise. I picked a station and the sound was ............ so so. I am assuming that I have a loose wire somewhere, or something is wrong with the stereo.

My problem has been laid before the mighty masses and I humbly ask for adivce on what people would do in my situation. I have a little money to play with, although not alot, maybe 200 or 300 right now, and more to comen. There is tint on the rear window, I don't know if that would cause an issue or not.

Please give me any and all advice and information. If people know links, then that is great. Comments welcome. All information appreciated.

Usually it is the volume knob itself. Spraying contact cleaner in (after pulling the knob off) as well as a little towards the knob from in the cassette slot usually cleans that up.
