Ive been thinking about putting the old rims back on the El Seven and putting new tires on. I need a big family workhorse. Any suggestions on where to buy a good set of cost effective TRX's?

PS, I also plan on 15mm wheel spaceer to give them a little offset, I already have screw in studs. Any issues with those. Its e23

Trx tires are special order thru any big Michelin dealer. A few car companies were attracted by this oddball Michelin idea in the mid 80's incl Ford, Ferrari and Pugeot. Today they are way overpriced and slim pickin's for design & performance. You should seriously consider new wheels unless you're doing concours show or something that mandates OEM wheels. The use of the obsolete TRX crap will result in high costs very quickly. If the wheels do not fit as desired and require spacers, I think new wheels with proper fitment are the best option.

I think Coker Tire produces TRXs now. However, expect to pay something like $200+ for a replacement tire. For the price of tires alone, you could find a nice set of 17s with tires on this board.

Well heres my problem;

The car came with some Albas on it, dont make me dig pics up. They are "pretty" but heavy and not bimmer material.

Apparently they are not strong either. They are all bent in the range of 70 to 100/1000.

I am having vibration issues. I have the original TRX's with the original , well, TRX tires on them. They are sol ight and straight!

I thought maybe someone would have some decent used TRX's or know of a wharehouse somewhere with them. The original rims fit well, but they could use a shade more offset. I am very shy of aftermarket rims that are inexpensive and this is my third car with crappy , heavy aftermaket rims that bend every time you graze a grasshopper on the freeway. Especially with a 4200 pound El Siete

I just need, like a said, a reliable workhorse, nothing fancy. The TRX's are a shade ugly, nbut I could live with the looks for a decent ride.

If you won't be able to get a hold of trx tires, you might want to get a set of those stock E34 525i wheels, you know the kinda plain looking ones. They'll fit (I'm pretty sure will bolt on no problems) and sell on ebay all the time for very little. Actually, I just sold mine locally with good michelin tires for only $175 (to a TRX wheel/tire owner!)

Junkie, you said you didn't need fancy, then you complain about 15's looking 'ghetto' ? Make up your mind, dude! :)

Either way, there's no need to go to soft, heavy aftermarket wheels. There are a ton of OEM options.

My preferences would be:

Cheapest and 'most reliable' (cheap for tires, won't bend) - 15" basketweaves
Next cheapest - 16" E39 basketweaves
Next up - 16" E31 Forged Turbine (just picked up a set for $325 shipped)

Buying TRX tires for the TRX wheels would be just after "stick knife in scrotum" on my preferences list. :)

HEy long time see! You must be busy. You guys know into college this fall, and money is going to be tight for a while. As soon as I mothball the 323 and Smokes in Roswell..the ONLY project I will retain is the 84 TA. the 535 is getting nothing but functional repair and maintenance for the nest three for years. I cant gaurantee I can make any money in college, but I figure I can put the v12 in the ta for under 200 with MEga squirt, I will have after hours access to all the equipment I could desire form the Formula Program'

UNless, of course, the economically advantageous relcoation presents itself ;)

The only good thing about TRX's is people hate them so much that they give them away. Any 5 or 7 series wheel will work for your car and a good deal could be a set with tires included.

If anybody actually wants TRX wheels, I'll have 10 of them available the end of next month, lol. When my buddy bought his 88 535i, the original owner gave him both the original TRX wheels with spare, plus a set of 4 gold BBS TRX wheels, and are mint, plus I have another TRX that was my spare in my E28. If anybody actually wants them, lmk, I'd be happy to sell them when I get back home end of may. Thanks.

isnt 390mm>16"?

I wonder if theres a shop some where that would chuck them up and turn them down a few mm's to 16's?

Mr Project

390mm = 15.35 inches. So a 16" would still be an upgrade. Dude, I'm telling you. Use the TRX's to make a nice endtable or something. :D

390/25.4 = 15.3xxxx

factory E34 15s, with good tires, what would you pay for them.... I can have them en route in a week abe.

I have a euro M6 witht the BBS TRX wheels (415) which I am looking into getting them down to 16". What might be possible is to remove the 34 nuts and move the inner piece to a 16 wheel, I am trying to locate a wheel that with minor modification will take the inner core, ROADVISION@JUNO.COM
