View Full Version : 91 octane vrs. 93?
KB535i 04-12-2005, 04:05 PM :help Hello fellas' I just found a place in town that has 93 octane. I didnt know my town even had it. Anyway Ive been running the 91 since my JC chip install and was wondering if the 93 is better OR if theres a chance it could harm the engine. Any thoughts or experiance? :help
dagoo98 04-12-2005, 04:25 PM I definitely know it won't harm the engine, out here in NYC they only sell 93. There are only a few gas stations that sell 91. The usual lineup is 87, 89, 93. It should perform better especially since you have the performance chip.
Tahoe M3 04-12-2005, 04:38 PM 93 will NOT hurt anything and can only help your performance, especially when the weather gets hot. Oh for 93 in CA but we aren't so lucky.
KB535i 04-12-2005, 04:57 PM :buttrock Sweeeet. 93 it is from now on :alright thanks guys
Dark Helmet 04-12-2005, 05:02 PM if its the same money, go with 93, I run 92 Amoco when I can, that's the highest we get up here. if its a substantial price hit, I'm not sure you will realize any gains unless the 91 you are using is crap.
jimmyz2 04-12-2005, 05:35 PM I wish I had your problem here in the People's Republika of Kalifornia. :(
Mobius20 04-12-2005, 06:21 PM If your engine runs fine on 91, you won't notice a damn bit of difference with 93. M30s have no method of taking advantage of higher-than-necessary octane fuel.

jock168 05-03-2005, 02:44 PM Some 76 Stations have 100 Octane. I don't konw where you are but the 76 Station on Almaden & Foxworthy in South San Jose has it.

Not anymore in NYC, not since last summer. It's possible that they still have it out on LI but I'm not out there much. I used to use it all the time in NYC before they stopped selling it. The lineup in Sunoco in NYC now is 87, 89, 91, 93.
sirtiger 05-03-2005, 04:21 PM ^^hmmm weird... I still see it around.. but u r right.. not as much...
wonder why? not profitable?
Mblaster 05-03-2005, 07:02 PM Kali just freaking blows.
Though you can get 100 and make a cocktail. :devillook
abakos 05-03-2005, 07:20 PM M30s don't run very high compression at all. Even with the chip you're probably fine on 91 (or even 89?). I was always of the impression that as long as you don't have a pre-ignition problem you're in good shape.
I'm not too well read on the topic, but that's my understanding. Putting in higher octane than necessary is generally a waste of $$.

Where in NYC do you still see it? I used to use it all the time and would like to still get 94 octane if it isn't too much out of the way. Thanks.
