i have heard from some guys that ANSA and other types of exhaust on their '02s rust out or break apart after only a year or so. Anyone else have this problem?...i am looking for a new exhaust right now, anyone have any suggestions or advice?

i recently put on the resonator/muffler/header from Ireland -- stainless. I sure hope it doesn't rust out!!!

Its been great. Dono about breaking apart -- we bent our own pipes and welded it so it should be good for quite a while.

My car has had an ANSA exhaust on it since 1991. Its only accumulated 15k miles since then though. Its pretty heavily rusted ( muffler looks good), but no holes. Wish it was louder. Im going to have to take off the muffler in a couple weeks to see how it will sound. :D

how much $$ did all that run you?

Im not sure who your asking, but my ANSA came on the car when I bought it.

I've had a Bosal stock aftermarket replacement purchased form BavAuto on mine for nearly 10 years. I'm in TX, not the rust belt, though.

As for long lasting exhausts, I don't think you can beat the stock one.

thats what i have heard...that the stock seems to hold up real well...does anyone know about the gains in power from new headers and mufflers...is it even worth the money for the power gains you can get? or even worth it for the sound?

the only difference I can tell with my exhaust is that it seems to pull through the high RPM better --

I woudln't have bothered but I blew it up due to a faulty warm up transmitter running the engine too rich -- split the resonator in two!!! So when I fixed that I put on a new system. Glad I did

I like the sound of the stock one so don't trust me, but I wouldn't hit a dog in the butt with an Ansa, they seem like crap. If I were going to put an exhaust on mine, it would be a custom stainless job like CanadaMatt's M20 from www.2002faq.com

With a stock motor you will notice absolutely no difference (besides sound)
The stock Tii system flows very well and is a great upgrade for all 02's

I have to disagree with that to some extent...

If you just slap on an off the shelf header and aftermarket exhaust like an Ansa you will see a little gain but not much over the Tii manifold/exhaust BUT if you install a header like this and a full custom 2.25" mandrel bent exhaust using free flowing mufflers like the Edelbrock RPM or Dynomax round Race mufflers you WILL have noticeable gains in useable power.

those look pretty wild!!!

I wasn't expecting a lot from new headers + stainless but I was pleasantly surprised -- especially at the top end. The engine revs right to the redline now using Ireland step headers 1 1/2"-1 5/8"

How are those headers from Ireland? I plan on picking some up to go with the new sebring. Does it affect sound at all?

The car i picked up a few months ago has a brand new ANSA system, 2"inch straight back no resonator. I am planning on putting a Tii exhaust manifold on, for some help in the flow area. It sounds good, but it appears i may not get many years out of it here in Florida I just have to see.

Any thoughts on the Tii exhaust manifold, coupled with a 2" ANSA system? Minimal gains, just good sound? Have weber 38/38, and upgraded ignition.

Is the ansa muffler itself( like what you buy off Bavauto) http://www.bavauto.com/assets/product_images/hardpart/bw_0227.jpg

2 inches? I bought the 2.25 sebring and was wondering what my ansa's diameter is.

ya it does sound somewhat different, bit louder -- throaty -- but not tinny no farty sounding anyway. Its hard to tell cos like I said I went through several evolutions from the stock exhaust. I had strait piped to a stock muffler for a while after my resonator blew and it was kinda leaky, so I can tell you its a hell of a lot better sounding than that setup. Also the glass packs make it a bit different sounding -- dono how the sebring will sound. I mean its the mufflers and resonator that control most how something sounds I think.

I got the headers for a xmass present, otherwise I probably wouldn't have put those on -- just stuck with tii headers. I didn't get the ceramic coated ones and they're already looking a bit naff -- can hardly complain tho. If you have the $$ i'd get the ceramics

oh ya, you'll also loose a bit of ground clearance

I've had to fix my driveway a bit to keep from scraping. I plan on welding a little half pipe on the bottom of those headers for extra protection. But I live in the boonies so its maybe more of an issue.

The ANSA I have looks just like that photo, with 2" aluminized piping straight back.

so no one has experienced any worthwhile gains with headers(tii, or stahl) and aftermarket muffler/ muffler with resonator? is something like straight pipes going to be a good idea for power...considering that load noise is not a problem, even though a nice roar would be good also with the power...

The Tii is not a header-it's a cast iron manifold like the stock (non-tii) manifold but it has slightly larger passages and outlets. You will see a little power from the Tii and good exhaust.

Stahl was dynotested back in the day against every other header avialable and made the most power of them all. Better than the Tii but not as good as a modern header. The Ireland header is probably the best off the shelf header on the market now but it could be better...

The best bang for your perfromance $$ is a custom header and complete custom exhaust designed to suit YOUR engine and the way YOU use your car. That will give you more HP than an intake/carb upgrade.

Street headers are a world different than a race header. That 4-2-1 header I posted earlier is 1 off-designed for a stock or near stock engine and it makes a lot more mid range power than any other header available. My M10 pulls noticeably stronger than a 2.3L six- part due to the EFI and the rest due to the header.
