I believe a stock e46 m3 is geared to reach like 206(give or a take a few mph), but it is just a question of how long it takes to get there.

Yeah, a bunch of E46 madmen around here do those 160-170mph run all the time :nono . Wait till they get busted :devillook
You can reach 175 with the windows open if you wear the proper brand of ties.

I highly doubt a stock E46 M3 has the power to see 200 mph, even with the right gearing. For that matter, probably won't see 190, maybe 180, anything in the 170's I can see happening. I mean, if you go off of a C5 Vette, which has a MUCH better drag coefficient, and a lot more power, gearing nonwidthstanding, they will top out at 172 mph.
sethla 04-11-2005, 04:16 PM Did you say supercharger? :devillook
BimmerMan20 04-11-2005, 05:09 PM 170 is very possible..i did it on the highway a while back 172 or so.

well i know M3 Ant said that they are geared to reach like 206 or something. I can try & dig up the thread and quote him. Whether he is correct or not, I have no idea there. :)

Its cool man. Just doing rough math in my head (watch for steam venting to sides) the E46 M3 just does not have the raw power to pull that car to that speed. I mean my Z has at least as good of a drag coefficient, a good bit more power, and I KNOW it won't pull that high.

:rofl You beat me to it... :lol

Was that reading from your speedo? If so, you probably weren't doing 172. BMW speedometers are widely known to overstate actual speed.
BMW states that the speedo can be overstated by 10% +2.5mph. So, while your speedo said 172, you may have only been going around 155 (which is where the car is limited to).
Now, if you verified the 172 with some form of GPS then I will quickly appologize.
M Roady 04-13-2005, 11:07 AM Nice run! Next time start from a dig, and stop by 80 mph...well, guess it doesn't matter after the blower goes on. :evil2
:rofl You beat me to it... :lol
Ditto!

Nah i know it not the actual MPH, but that what it was reading on the DASH. I think it could have kept going maybe not but I had to get off my exit
