View Full Version : 99 M3 vs. S/C Solara
Mulberry e36 04-11-2005, 02:54 AM Coming back from a late dinner at Denny's and I see a green solara come up quickly on my left and i'm thinking the guy is just trying to screw with me since a stock auto v6 solara isn't all that fast since i've driven my buddies back in high school more of a cruiser car in my opinion (my mom's tl gave it a spanking)...anyhow so i just kept it in fourth and kinda gased it and the guy gives me a pretty good fly which suprised the hell out of me...then we stop at a red light...me and the guy get to chat real quick says he has supercharger, intake, exhaust, and headers so that made me a bit more interested....i just have intake and exhaust...says he doesn't want to burn out so we agree to a rolling start at around 20...we actually match speeds around 30 and we both gun it...i pull about a 1/2... 1 car length on him and it pretty much stays like that til I shut it down at around 80...after guy says good race...and I also agree and go our seperate ways...overall i was rather suprised at the solara thing is rather quick
toopercentmlk 04-11-2005, 03:22 AM yea those things are slow stock, ive driven an auto 4banger.. i laughed to tell youthe least.
SweetGP20 04-11-2005, 03:36 AM Why would someone buy a Toyota Solara and waste all the money to supercharge it and get all those modifications? Not saying he shouldn't modify his car. But doing all those mods obviously shouts out that he cares about straight-line acceleration, while buying a Solara shouts out he doesn't care about handling/cornering performances. If all he worries about is going fast, why not buy a more suitable car that's MEANT to go fast? He can still modify that car and the car could probably react better to those same mods (supercharger/I/E).
toopercentmlk 04-11-2005, 03:44 AM maybe he just loves that particular car, and wants it to hang with the rest. i think its understandable.

isn't the solora the nascar toyota entry?
74tii 04-11-2005, 05:13 AM maybe he got the car for cheap and his bro works for a joint that can set him up with all those mods for next to nothing.
You gotta do with what you have -- and its kind of cool making a sleeper
Who S/Cs a Solara?! That car is so boring, it's like a valium on 4 wheels.

:lol Which is the luxury camry and which is the sport camry? (out of avalon and solara)
Avalon (which means «let's swallow» in french BTW) is the luxury one, the Solara is (supposedly - Ha!) the sport one.

Hey dumba$$:D A sc'd solara is something that was available straight from the dealer, it was their TRD package - brakes, suspension mods, wheels, exhaust, subtle body kit and the blower. They made 240 hp, pretty quick off the start, but felt sluggish at highway speeds (buddy used to own one - auto though, so my experience wasn't that great) With the 4 speed auto the car felt like the tranny was just not matched to the car for highway speeds. The car actually handled pretty tight.
I beat him with my stock maxima :D Outlaunched him by a car and kept the lead until 3rd gear:D I know he would eventually walk me, but hey.
Oh yeah, the blower failed and he got rid of the car :D
Good kill, btw.
Mulberry e36 04-11-2005, 02:56 PM thanks...yeah the car was pretty much a sleeper didn't even have the trd kit on it...wasn't all that loud either...just had some, at the looks of it chrome 17"s, but he suprised me with the s/c...overall fun race and the guy was pretty down to earth...can't really beat that...

wow, finally a person who spelled Camry correct ;)
I guess people r running out of cars to s/c :rolleyes

Could have been just a stocker with the blower kit from Toyota - Little over $3000 I believe - 40hp direct bolt-on.
And no, it isn't loud at all, the TRD muffler was quiet, as a matter of fact I'm only 99% sure the car came with a performance muffler.:D
MGregski 04-11-2005, 04:22 PM nice killAnd the reason for posting the same exact thing in every thread in this section is..............?

well yeah, that is the most logical reason I'd think. First thing I thought at least. :stickoutt
mihalis 04-11-2005, 09:18 PM Wow, nice race I guess, if Toyota offered the Solera in stick you might have just been walked... Yeah, you can get a TRD Supercharger for the V6 Solera, it's like $4,000!!! That guy had probably about $7,000 worth of parts in his car...some people just love their car and want to mod something different. I was going to get a supercharger for my Corolla but it would have only got me like an additional 40hp...what a joke!!! That's why I just stuck to handling mods. Anyway, Toyota's are not bad cars, but they are more cruisers and family cars before anything else.

Yeah...my friend's first car was the solara and he had plans to get full trd everything including the blower but then he decided to bust an illegal U-turn and got himself t-boned....rents took the solara away and then he bought himself a '96 lude... he just dropped a turbo in the lude so its gonna be some fun times racing against him in the summer...

what type of lude? S, SI, or SI-Vtec. I'm guessing SI, which is still nice. They are pretty quick, I loved my S, but it was slow. But I still spanked alot of ricers around my town(doesn't say much for those guys). But if he turboed his lude, he will probably give you a good run for your money, as long as he gets good tires. I had 17x7 with Goodyear Eagle F-1 tires, and I could launch about as good as that car could.

It's an SI-Vtec its really clean...got it repainted championship white but anyhow he used to have the Gram Lights 57c with some good rubber but I forgot which kind but his rims got stolen so he's rolling on the stock rims right now...but yeah after his car gets tuned i'm pretty sure he could take me...cars lighter and he's been racing a lot longer than i have...so i guess i'll just have to wait and see

damn a 96 SI-Vtec, those are rare. I was actually looking to get either that, or get a different S and swap in the h22a motor, and go from there. But the I got my car. :) But if he FI's that 190hp motor, he will probably beating you all around. Only place you may have him is on a track, and they are still pretty good in the turns, that would probably be a good race. :)
