Last night a two buddies and I are returning from a friend's house party just cruising at a modest 75mph, we see a Mercedes E430 roll by at a very quick pace, but we have no problem matching him and cruising behind him. Being the predator, little do I know, but the hunter is about to become the hunted. We pass a Porsche at about 90mph, I initially figured it to be a 996 Carrera, but I still haven't quite adjusted to my tinted windows. I start to see the Xenon Porsche headlights rapidly catching up and am astonished to see those five beautiful letters gracing the rear end, turbo. What the hell, lets see what happens, 80-150mph and he has a good 10 lengths and pulling strong, I have never been beat so badly.

This car made a sound that was just crazy, I can't explain it, I thought the Eisenmann was a nice sound, the Eisenmann was easily droned out when the Turbo downshifted and emitted a thunderous farting sound (in a good way). It sounded more like a Z06 with exhaust than that standard Bumble Bee whine of modern Porsches, the exhaust had to be aftermarket. The Mercedes was left back in the dust somewhere, thumbs up were exchanged and we continued home.

By now it is 2am, the roads are dead and for you local guys I merge from the 15 South to the 52 East and continue my 75mph pace, when I see another two cars approaching, Ford explorer followed by a Ford Mustang Cobra, it was the 5.0 that came out probably in 97-98. We did a few pulls, he pulled on me twice, I pulled on him once. I think if I didn't have my two friends in the car it would have been much closer the times he pulled on me, it was basically whoever got the jump won.

I still can't get over the sound of that Turbo, it was ridiculous.

Yep. The sound of a Porsche turbo is unmatched by anything, except a Ferrari of course. What mods do you have right now?

It wasn't stock though, a Porsche couldn't have made that sound stock, plus he had aftermarket wheels, so I'm inclined to think he might have swapped the exhaust.

Mods: Cosmos Racing Intake, Euro HFM, URI crank pulley, Eisenmann Race Exhaust, Fan Delete, JC chip, Injectors, etc. Those are the main power adders.

Maybe a stock porche turbo could make that sound, and a stock porche carerra couldn't lol. I've been in a stock 2003 porche turbo with 420hp and 415tq I believe, maybe 420 tq. That car doesnt have to be modded to sound, look, and be mean. You know its not soo often you get to hear a porche turbo go WOT at any speed. One, because there not your average seen car and two, because even if you do see one its rare the driver would want to race. Then again I'm from Boca Raton where I see MILF's and old guys driving them, and neither ever want to race. Yet, I obviously dont know you and maybe you have heard a fare amount of porche turbos go at it before giving you the impression this one was not stock. So my opinion is based on mere speculation. It really is an insanely fast car.

0-62 in 4.2 seconds so 0-60 in around 3.9-4.0 with a good driver. I'm not too sure about the 1/4, maybe low to mid 12's????

Also, many 911s have an option where you can remove the baffles in the exhaust and make it much louder. That might have been the case.

Always fun to see a machine like that do what it was made for. Cool story.

And FYI, the 97-98 Cobras had a DOHC 4.6

Well it was a 5.0, the 97-98 was just meant to give reference to the body style.
