Last night a two buddies and I are returning from a friend's house party just cruising at a modest 75mph, we see a Mercedes E430 roll by at a very quick pace, but we have no problem matching him and cruising behind him. Being the predator, little do I know, but the hunter is about to become the hunted. We pass a Porsche at about 90mph, I initially figured it to be a 996 Carrera, but I still haven't quite adjusted to my tinted windows. I start to see the Xenon Porsche headlights rapidly catching up and am astonished to see those five beautiful letters gracing the rear end, turbo. What the hell, lets see what happens, 80-150mph and he has a good 10 lengths and pulling strong, I have never been beat so badly.
This car made a sound that was just crazy, I can't explain it, I thought the Eisenmann was a nice sound, the Eisenmann was easily droned out when the Turbo downshifted and emitted a thunderous farting sound (in a good way). It sounded more like a Z06 with exhaust than that standard Bumble Bee whine of modern Porsches, the exhaust had to be aftermarket. The Mercedes was left back in the dust somewhere, thumbs up were exchanged and we continued home.
By now it is 2am, the roads are dead and for you local guys I merge from the 15 South to the 52 East and continue my 75mph pace, when I see another two cars approaching, Ford explorer followed by a Ford Mustang Cobra, it was the 5.0 that came out probably in 97-98. We did a few pulls, he pulled on me twice, I pulled on him once. I think if I didn't have my two friends in the car it would have been much closer the times he pulled on me, it was basically whoever got the jump won.
I still can't get over the sound of that Turbo, it was ridiculous.
