wow this just all happened about 30 min ago
im on pac. coast hiway. in newport beach. cruizing around, buncha chicks around, partys everywhere , big limos, nothing too exciting
then i see this very clean boston green 4dr m3 cruize through traffic.
i check his car out, he checks mine, and we sort of play with each other for a while (ok that came out bad) i down shift and accel, and we pull up to a redlight. he goes hard and i follow suit, obviously he is out pulling me quite a bit and im going on it. a long gradual turn approaches, im htting about 100 mph and he dumps into the turn, he hits it so hard , he begins to understeer and came verrry close to hitting curb, i see it all and say oh #$@% and before i can hit the brake im going into it. to my surprize , i roll into it and hit it just fine with almost no understeer or tire chirp.... amazing, i seem to have out handled the stock m3.... neways we continue, goiing through a few cars, im iffy about going over 100 here, becuase its still in the town, but as we pass over the jetty bridge, ( newport into Huntington beach, very lonng stretch 1 mile between lights) i contiue full throttle, he is about 200 yards ahead,
my blood in rushing so fast, it was amazing...
i begin to gain on him, i look to see im going 130 MPH!!!! in a 50 zone, with absolutly NO ONE else on the road, and i can see down for at least 2 miles no headlights.
so its on now, i keep gaining on him, and by the time i accually pass the guy my speedo is at almost 145 and my rev limiter hits. (so its off about 5 mph)
he giving me the devil hand sign out the moon roof and were both freaking out .

we pull up to a stop light and talk, i was like "DUDE WERE YOU JUST MESING WITH ME WHEN I PASSED U up? ALL I GOT IS A INTAKE AND EXHAUST"
he says" (yelling) man i dunno! i was just jamming that was freaking awesome!! mines stock!
so im guessing hes not the best driver based on how bad he took the turn and how my 2.8L passed his ass at 140 mph. maybe he hit speed limit before hand and he had no power to accel at that point, i dunno.
i swear im not bullshiting this, but either way i dont count it as a kill or loss, just a BEAUTIFUL display of two badass bavarian machines RAPING the road.
guys it was awesome, over 3 miles of this on the beach. the best race of my life. if it was on the freeway, i prolly wouldnt have even posted. but a 3 lane beach cruizing road. damn. this is what bmws were made to do.

sure it wasnt a 325 with a bodykit?

a 328vert is alot slower then any m3.

the guy told me its a m3. and i know how fast ///m's are.
im tellin you what went down. and no 325 pulls that hard off the line. i can take 5 speed 325s.
my guess is he either a. hit the speed limit and was coming down from it, giving me enough to pull him. OR b. he left it in 5th gear way too long, unexperienced driver and never used his power band.
hell he could have put 87 octane in, or maybe his car had all kinds of wieght in it. who knows. what should have happened and what did is two different things. either way im not claiming it as a win, im claiming it as a badass place to go 140 mph.

sounds like a great night. I would say he probably just wasn't a great driver, but good enough to give you an exciting run. :)

on a side note, I'd say go through and edit the S words from both of your posts.

Very nice. Those speeds are tough with stock suspension though....careful my friend.

its not that hard on stock suspension. Ive been up 2 135 twice on the old stock suspension (just gone new one installed) and it was stable as could be. and we have almost the same car.

I'd be more worried more about the tires at those speeds.

nice kill, sounds like the m driver didn't know much about spirited driving.

careful going that fast in 50mph zones. the cops might beat you with their night clubs.

yoko tires rated for 140 mph... which means you can drive 140 mph for 24 hours before the tire will blow.

This is the very same stretch of road I got zapped by the radar gun doing 92mph in the 55mph zone 3yrs ago. Looks worse on paper then it really was, actually. I had just picked up the M3 with its newly broken-in engine and AA Stg2.5 turbo kit, and had just left the dyno at 11pm. Took out to PCH there and just gave it it's first 3-4 second rip in 3rd gear from 50-90+mph and then slammed on the brakes back down to 50mph. No one in sight..no big deal. "whoa!" I thought to myself laughing. And then up ahead I see a motorcycle cop in the darkness jumping back on his bike and I just pulled over in front of him. Wrote me up for 92mph. At this point I got to thinking this turbo thing wouldn't be the best move for my driving record. :help
I was so giddy from the power, though, that it was the first time it didn't really bother me (and then the cop didn't show at court, thank goodness :alright ).
I got the V1 radar det. right after that. Make sure you've got one if you're speeding at all thru there, especially at night.

How long does it take for them to get you on the gun, and get a speed? Do you have enough time to brake to legal speed?

Put it this way: some magazines test acceleration and braking with a Stalker radar gun just like theirs. It's pretty much instant, :(

yea if you get gunned your screewed... best thing is to have a detector and then if you do get pulled fight it in court.... cops give tickets based on the fact they hope no one will fight it... lets say they give 10 tickets , 2 fight it... thats 80 percent kill ratio.. because they dont wanan go to court if they dont have to...
bottom line.. fight it! odds are they wont show up.

yep, if a cop doens't show up, then it gets thrown out. if you don't hav anything to do that day, or you can get out of work or what not, go to court. :)

my step-dad is a PO and they get paid ridiculous overtime for court... at least in my area... he said that they love going to court because it's ungodly easy money and a lot of it!

I believe the stock E36 M is limited to 138mph, therefore it would make sense if you've been chipped that you could pass him after that, assuming he was at the speed limiter. Either way, nice kill / story!

Nice drive henry, It could have also been possible, that his car is having some problems such as bad vanos, O2 sensor, tons of other possible variables.
