So I was coming home from my girlfriend's house tonight, just cruising along at the speed limit, about 50MPH. In my side view mirror I see a Mercedes Benz hatchback rapidly approaching in the left lane. I drop down to third and mash the throttle to the floor. He had about a 1/2 a car length on me by the time I downshifted and went WOT. It was at this point that I realized he had to be moderately to heavily modified. I noticed the AMG badge on the back, funny, I didn't know they made an AMG version of the sport coupe, maybe he just bought it on eBay or something.

I begin to reel him in, and then pass him, pull about two car lengths and let off at about 110MPH. His car sounded pretty mean. I could hear the supercharger whining and the exhaust sounded almost like a jet taking off. I was actually surprised at the performance of that car since I thought they were pretty slow.

So then we pull up next to each other at a stop light and I compliment him on how fast his car is and he replies, "It doesn't seem that fast to me." Modest answer, I can respect that. So he asks me if I'm a member of DTMpower.net. I told him I'm usually on bimmerforums. He makes a comment that his friend usually posts on both forums. Anyways, it was nice small talk, he was a pretty cool guy.

The light turns green and we both take off pretty slow. We're still kind of talking and I say, "Ready?", he nods, I'm still in first gear, I put up my hand signalling 1, 2, 3. Then I punch it with my engine already revving at about 3500RPM, perfect to get that nice first gear punch in. This time I pulled effortlessly on him and it looked like he gave up after about 7 carlengths when he realized it was hopeless. To his credit I think he had shifted to second while we were talking, but in my defense, he did have the three seconds that I signalled in order to shift back into first. In any case, the M3 came out on top, but I have major respect for that car, whatever car it was.

Edit: He said his friend had an Estoril M3 and used the screen name EstorilM. If he sees this maybe he can comment on his friend's mods and what model the car was.

yeah I don't think they made an AMG edition 230 sport coupe. Just Kompressor. But maybe he bought AMG stuff and put hte badge one (like poeple do with dinan) :dunno. But I have seen EstorilM in the M3 series boards, so maybe he will come in here and comment.

Yeah there is no such thing as a 230 AMG.. Just the badge... I guess just cause its already F/i its pretty easy to mod, but honestly those things stock arent to slow either...NO BE ANYMEANS FAST, but i'd say will keep up with or beat any new racer..

230 is quite slow... so slow it needs the kompressor thingy to push it

hello there, I remember this well. When I raced you I had thought that your car was slightly modded as well, I remember my gf commented on how fast your car was and I'm used to losing to M3's so I was surprised when you told me it was supercharged and at cruising speed I could kinda hear the s/c whine on your car, sorry but my car is too loud for me to hear much of what's going on elsewhere. My car's bottom end is less than admirable, maybe I'd do better off a launch than a roll, but the higher the speed the better I do. Atleast I had an excuse for my gf for losing :D I've raced e36's and e46's I've beaten some e36s been neck and neck with others but the trend seems to be that they shit on me.
Mods? what are mods? j/k I don't have anything crazy, Just a crank pulley and an intercooler, and the badges don't forget that. I'm assuming you got your supercharger from Jack at DAI, cuz every1 goes to him in the area, my friend Sina with the Estoril M3 goes to him like every week so you might've run into him b4, his car looks like an STI cuz he put a crazy wing on it, only one in OC that looks like that.

Ya the 2003 and up C230's (sedan or coupe) are infact 1.8L, 2002 C230/Slk230 and under were 2.3L. There is also A C320 Coupe available now.

Yeah, I got my S/C from Jack although I think his installation and support left something to be desired. Eventually, between Jack, my Dad, me and other BMW owners we got the car running correctly. Anyways, we had an awesome run, and maybe one day I'll see how I do against a C32...

I've talked to jack and I've hung around him more times than I'd care to admit, and personally I think him and his mini cooper suck balls. That guys an ass as far as im concerned. He cheats people any way he can unless he happens to like you for sum reason. His personality is shit, especially for his age.

I raced the guy who claims he has the fastest C32, its red with a carbon fiber hood and all I have to say is :eek: If you'd have given me 3/4 of a mile head start he would've beaten me to the mile mark. That guy passed me, my friends M3 and everyone else that came to the meet like we were in reverse.
I think he told me that his user name was NMM or MNM or something like that on mbworld.org

I haven't taken my car to a 1/4 mile track and I don't have access to a G-Tech or anything like that so I can't say for sure. I'm going to guess mid to high 12s in the 1/4 mile and slightly under 5.0 seconds 0-60.

Yeah a few mods in a MB can make it decently fast being FI stock. I have a friend who might be on the mercedes benz website that was talked about earlier. He goes to school in Orlando. Anyway he drives a slk 230, but hes got the crank pulley upgrade also, and that gave him like a second. Hes also got intake and exhaust. Anyway for being an auto and stock 0-60 in 7.1, well hes pretty fast now. Definitely in the 5 second range. Which isnt bad for only 3 minor mods. I think with headers and software hed be pretty fast. WISH our bimmers were FI stock too lol :(

My car has had its fair share of problems. I used to beat 330's stock then I had some engine problems, maybe software or combination of things. I changed my crank pulley to an alloy one and it messed up my car even worse, I returned it to stock and checked it out at dealer they found nothing, so I put on a stock pulley with a ring around it(the one I have on currently, heavier, doesnt boost as much, but safe!) The dealership eventually fixed the problem whatever it was, I drove 20,000 miles with my car being slow and me not knowing why, people beating me who I used to beat. Very frustrating. Especially when the 330 guy comes back or an auto C230 that I beat b4 end up killing me. I have a whole list of cars that I had walked come around and own me. The 95- 7 series, the SLK320 a 95 M3. Obviously that's fixed now, thank GOD, first time my car has felt any type of pull for a long time, think about half the time you have your car that you are driving like you cant breathe, no response of any kind. Can't wait to run into some more people.

As far as SLK230's they have my engine too, it's slightly different set up but I hear of people interchanging parts. Never raced a 230 though, and I'm sure the new SLK350 will eat me!

that is rare, not something you see with benzes where as many of us bimmer heads have a mess of motor swaps - myself included.
