I had my friend drive my M3 on the way home from pick up his dads car. After dropping off his dads car, I had him drive me and my car home. There was a red light ahead and I said, hey an STI. I looked over to my right at the STI driver and smiled. He smiled back and it was on. The light turned green and we both take off.

This is all on 17psi. 91 craptane.

We just took off and left him. I dont think he was ready for what just happened. The next light came and I rolled my window down and he said that was nice. We got ready and the light turns green. The STI launchs pretty well and my friend burned it in first. He shifted into 2nd and we were about 1/2 a car behind. He floors it in 2nd and we were about 1/2 a car ahead now. Into 3rd he goes and we were about 3 cars ahead now.

We did this about 3 more lights and the same thing happens. But these times, my friend got a way better launch off the line and kept up with him in 1st. These time, we would be about 4 cars ahead at the end of 3rd gear.

That was a rush.

Nice kill! Why is your friend driving your car with you in it again? I'd be scurred to let anyone drive my car, and if it were a turbo I couldn't imagine letting anyone other than a professional driver behind the wheel.

Martin just emailed me telling me he burned a sti in your car! I can imagine that launching that thing must be hard to do. I remember giving it gas in 3rd gear and the car going sideways. Is it even possible??? :laugh

That's awesome E!

STi's are no slouch, having a boosted 2.0L, you also should know that its not blanketly "cylinder displacement + turbo = faster"

Its volumetiric flow, cylinder displacement gives a better potential, but its also how much boost you are running. (weight is also a factor, but we will ignore that for now)

not starting up any debate, just some general info.

From the "outcome" of these races, it is logical that displacement was the only factor .

Oh and I certainly do know :devillook ;)

in that exact race, they were using similar compression and assumingly similar boost (alot of STi's move up from 14.5 to 17) so yes you are right

I just didn't want people thinking it was a simple as:
engine displacement + boost = faster

I was speaking directly to 4-BNGR at that point referring to the fact that he has an Evo.

Yes, USDM STi is 2.5 and everywhere else gets the 2.0L STi.

Ya, this took place in CA, so I think the 2.5 Applies.

Thanks guys. That was a very fun event for sure. I dont really get people that would race me often.

My friend Martin was driving the car because i wanted him to drive my car. He used to race go karts and races occasionaly now and then. So he is an experienced driver and i trust him in my car.

was this the first time with someone driving you around in your car? and actually getting on it.. when i drive in the pass seat of my car and my friends on it, its a totally different feeling, my car feels so much faster

i guess not having the steering wheel to brace myself and knowing when im going to hit it, its much different

nice runs and good kill, i have fun beating up on stock sti's , have yet to run a modded one

Would you mind stating the approximate total cost of your engine build and induction setup? And is the car converted over to a total OBD1 setup(ECU and Harness wise)? Thanx!

Nice that you're running a TEC 3.He (George) highly recommended me either using a OBD1 car or converting my OBD2 car into an OBD1 car then go Turbo F/I.Allows him to use the stck DME and do chip software. Gosh this is very tempting. Tired of the insatiable desire to upgrade all the time. :help $$$$$$$$
