Either get a really nice car or a really economical one. If you or she is picky with hotels stay on Key west, otherwise Big Pine Key has a few places, as well as some other smaller keys in that region (if you don't want to drive all the way to Key west the first day etc.). The Key's don't really have the best beaches. Theya re mostly for scuba diving and snorkling. If you want a really nice beach you might try something on the actual Florida peninsula since the keys are coral islands = limerock. You could stop by AA in Miami if you have a chance, I hear their shop is worth checking out.

BTW, Orlando is quite a ways from the keys, be prepared for a long drive and have money for tolls, you will have to take the turnpike.

Uh...stuff to do, retire, its honestly the truth. Unless you go to the beach, or to the theme parks, there isn't too much stuff to do here that you can't do anywhere else.
