View Full Version : Quick Kill - 545i dusts G35
wolverine 04-04-2005, 03:50 PM Well, it was over almost before it started. Driving past an off-ramp in the left hand lane, I noticed a new G35 sport moving quickly into the RHL. I downshifted into second at about 35 mph and got ready. Sure enough, as soon as he came alongside me he floored it. I was ready, squealed the tires, and instantly put a couple car-lengths on him. I had to make a quick turn onto the highway, but he was wupped. Nice looking car though.
He had a friend in the car, and it was just me in the 545, so not really an even race. Taught him not to mess with the big V8 though...
slickav 04-04-2005, 03:54 PM I still haven't seen pics of your car, do it!!!!!!

333inlinesix 04-04-2005, 04:16 PM Nice, I just noticed that your 5er is debadged, he probably had no idea what was coming. And I am sure if your car was packed, you still would have beat him.

Good Kill!

There you have it, right from the owner of both. I have always loved the E39 540's, and now the E60's with some nice wheels are starting to catch my attention...hmm.
agmobb 04-04-2005, 05:14 PM Nice kill. I love both of those cars. The 545i is teh shiz :buttrock

That G's a really nice car but definately overmatched by the 545i. The 545i is roomier, a better ride, better handling, more toys and is way faster. It's also roughly twice the bucks so yeah, it should be better and it is. The G does get better gas mileage but not enough to be significant.
530i though would get smoked by a G, oh wait, been there done that. ;)
shmoo 04-05-2005, 08:06 AM Wicked looking car
giterdone 04-05-2005, 08:44 AM that's pretty wolvi. I like the e39's better, there is something about the e60's that kind of turn me away but yet I'm still attracted to them. Maybe just because it still has that BMW touch. But are those stock rotors on your car? They are pretty damn big, they nearly fill all of your wheels, What size rims are those?

I think that once the new E90s hit the street, many opinions will change on BMW's new look.
I didn't much care for the new look 7 series when they first appeared but I did get accustomed to it eventually. By the time I saw the E60, I was hooked but I do realize the look doesn't appeal to everyone...
giterdone 04-05-2005, 09:38 AM yeah, I know what you mean. When a car changes it's curves, usually people tend to not like it, but after a few months/year people warm up to it, and get used to it, then they look at the old ones, and are like, how the hell did I like that better than the new one? :)
It's amazing how much people despise change.

That is how I felt, I thought they completely ruined the 7er when the 745 came out, but I will admit, it did grow on me to the point where I drool when I see one with some aftermarket wheels.
The same goes for the 545, the first thing I would buy would be some nice deep lipped wheels. The one thing that really makes me sick is the silver trim that many people are putting around the rear tail lights on their black E60's. Has anyone ever seen this?

I'm not sure if I've seen the silver trim. I think so though, does it give it almost an altezza look? But I'm sure I will see them now, since I will probably keep an eye out for them.
I think the thing I dislike most about the new 5ers is the rear lights. How it wraps down the side, it looks weird to me, and well.....halfway ricerish. It reminds me of the 350z.

Yeah, it really gives them an altezza look, and I agree about the tails. Why couldn't they just stop them at the back? Otherwise, I think the E60 looks mean as hell from the back, especially with some wider rubber.
Sorry to completely jack this thread, but does anyone know how wide you can go on stock height w/out any fender modification with the rear wheels?

The tailights are certainly a departure from the last generation rectangular style but the E90's getting the same treatment and I dare say, they look real good on that car.
Bottomline line, the E90's are going to continue to set the standard for luxo-sports sedans. Once enough of those hit the streets, the entire new look will be solidified and only then will we be able to fully comprehend what BMW's been doing for the last 3/4 years. My guess is once more, BMW got it right.
Man are we getting off topic! Only way a G35 is going to run with the 545i would that it's a G35x (all-wheel drive) and the road condition is poor, better make that snowing. ;)
giterdone 04-05-2005, 10:58 AM just to make sure. the e60 is the current 5 seriers (what wolvi has) and which series is the e90? and when is it coming out?

is it true the e90 M3 is going to have a v8 in it? I heard that they were going to do that, so they could go back to competing in the races like Lemans and Sebring 12 hr. They used to slap the M5 v8 in the M3 body, and would smoke everybody in it's class, then they came out wiht a rule saying you had to be "near stock" which pretty much means, you have to have the stock amount of cylinders. So they had to stop competing becuase the i6 wasn't fast enough to compete with GT2s and 3s. but I heard (hearsay) that they were going to put 8's in the new M3s so they can go back to competing.
333inlinesix 04-05-2005, 03:47 PM Yeah, there is supposed to be a version of the new M5's V10 in it, only with the 2 less cylinders. I would have thought they would have slapped an S62 in it to keep using that motor, but I guess not...
giterdone 04-05-2005, 03:59 PM is s62 the current M5motor? sorry for my ignorance, I mainly just know about the e36 series/m3.:(

That's what I've been reading.
4L V8 rated at 400HP!

Yeah it is the engine that was in the last M5 (E39). I think it is pretty sad I know a lot of the chassis/engine codes. Wow, we really took over this thread huh?

The rotors are stock - yeah, they're big - remember it's a 3800 lb car! The wheels are BBS RS-GT's 19x8.5 in front, 19x9.5 in back. Wait until the 550 comes out in September with 360 hp!! That is one heck of an upgrade! Here's the view of my car he had for a second anyways...

Looks amazing wolverine, if you ever happen to destroy those wheels, get some 19x9 and 19x10's!

I agree. I'm sure if I can fit 9's on mine, you can go wider on yours. :)
