This was the most random Sunday night I have ever encountered. I was driving past our local mall at about 11pm last night. I glance across the Sears parking lot and there sits a friday night size convoy of automobiles! Yay! I knew most of the guys, so I pulled on in to chat. Everyone was apparently arranging to go watch a juiced 04' mustang GT race a juiced z28 slp ls1. I decided to tag along and watch, as i knew this would be a great race (these guys had raced a week ago and there was a bunch of drama between the two of them, so this was the "last race") We head out to the county and the stang and the z28 go at it (mustang had him through 2nd then the z28 passed him in 3rd and continued to pull, sweet and fast race).
After the race this kid in a z24 cavalier kept pestering me to run him. I was like "Ehhh, I dont know man. Im not really up for it". Well he kept bugging me and bugging me, until my girlfriend was finally like "Damn, just race him". So we line up, and I destroyed him... twice... I buried 4th gear and his headlights were about an inch apart in my rear view. After unwillingly racing this cavalier, a guy in a green 04' mustang GT asked me to go. I chatted with him about his car for a second or two, and during the conversation I was informed that it was an automatic and had an intake and throttlebody. I also noticed it was a convertable so I knew he had a weight disadvantage. He went on out to the road and starting white smoking his tires as I sat in my car and closed my door, I had my window rolled down and overheard a couple of people standing around saying "Yeh, I got money on the mustang..." blah blah. At this point I was feeling pretty owned. :(
We lined up, some random guy flagged, and we were off. I nailed my launch, period. Barely a tire chirp, and my rpms never fell below 4k. I had a great reaction and launch, which sat me about a car infront of him. I held him at about 1.5 cls through all of 3rd and some of 4th, when he reeled me in and crept by. At about 120mph, his rear bumper was a tad ahead of my front when we shut it down. Awesome race! Technically, we agreed that I would have won in the 1/8, and probably in the quarter, seeing that he didnt pass me until about 120mph. i kinda wished we could have ran through 5th! Oh well, I was very suprised and even more proud, especially after hearing those guys bet on the mustang!

But good race and way to smack those non believers down. Why do they have so much faith in those mustangs? I mean espeically an auto. His intake helped him alot, but those mustangs just aren't very quick. Easily moddable though, but obviously that guy didn't take advantage of that.

Awesome, but be careful with organized racing like that, if cops catch you, thats not good, but have fun and dont get hurt. Way to take down a car designed for 0-100. Im suprised he passed you at 120, my experience with the gt's are they dont really have any topend over 100. The cobra's on the other and, well they arent to slow up there. My cousins cobra is insane from 80, thats all i can say, just insane.

yeah GTs tend to die out up top, but maybe the intake or TB helped him out. I dunno, but it is surprising a auto Vert passed him up top.

Ive raced a 99-04 gt with a saleen body kit, and atleast an exhaust, and i pulled about a car on him from 65-125, in 5th gear i was beginning to gain faster but we shut it down due to approaching traffic. It was definatly fun though, i was happy i had finally got to race one, i have been wanting to badly since i had heard that they were basically even in times with the M in a straight line. I also raced a 94-95 gt that day. It wasnt pretty for him, i pulled quite a bit on him quite quickly, he had his girl in the car and he wouldnt even get next to me after the race.

LOL, that remind sme of a time I "raced" a 94-98 body style mustang. Don't know which one it was, it was awhile back, and I didn't take note of it's tail lights (horizontal or vertical slats). But I came out of a toll booth going to my buddy Vio's house. The mustang was driving, I had my windows down, and he had his up. but I looked over at him, and just kept driving, and I knew he hit his throttle some, so I just eased into the gas. I was at 4th gear at like 50 at first, as we both kept pushing gas harder (until he & I were WOT), I steadily pulled on him and kept pulling until I stopped at about 110, and by then I had like 4 cars. After that I slowed down and he always managed to stay about 1 CL behind me. We came up to the stoplight, and he pulled behind me and I took off casual at first, to see if he was going to hug my bumper and he stayed back, he let me get a few CLs ahead before even pushing his gas, and so I just took off. He realized his car was slower and was too embarrassed to get next to me I guess. :)

Around here all the Mustangs (and Cobras) run nitrous. All it would take is one 50 shot and it would be over. Course I'm not a big fan of nitrous without boost attached to it. :) Nevertheless good job with that Stang.

is that your supra vs an 03 cobra that is on svt forums?? bc there is a supra that is ungodly fast and just puts busses on this 03 cobra that i saw a video of today on that website

The new 3 valve GT engine pulls at the top of the rev band just like the 4 vavle Cobras did before.

the new ones go pretty good.... its the new cobras that beat me bad though.... they're vette killers.. all the rest are puss... :buttrock

Eh, the 3v's dont quite pull like the 4v's a little weaker. The 4v's are freakin awesome, and my cousin with a 4v cobra has raced an 05 and he pulled 3 cars on him from 60-110

Auto or manual still matters, auto takes hp, hp helps at all speeds.

most stang owners i know wont race into 5th. because they know unless they are racing an extremely weaker call its all over for them in 5th. assuming that the car they are racing can keep up through the rest of the gears half decently...

yep, my cousin knows this. Well 1-3rd are all but even, he only puts a bout 1/4 of a car on me if we both do good launches and shifts. 4th gear he pulls pretty hard, and 5th gear i pull on him pretty good. We tried racing in 5th gear once from 65, just staying in 5th, i pulled him about a car from 65 to 130 in 5th gear.

This mustang was an 04'. It really does seem like the pulling stopped at the VERY end of 4th, so I think that my 5th may have put the hurt on... who knows. But on a completely different discussion, I raced an awd DSM last night!

Ahhh, glad you asked! :) Well I actually ran this guy about a week ago at a stop light, hes a friend of mine. He was snoozing bad when we ran, and he was on 16psi, averaging about 26 counts of knock. My insane reaction gave me about a 1-2 car lead, which I held until we shut down at about 80mph. Since then, he had let about 3 more lbs of boost in, putting him at 18-19 psi (its kinda spikey) and he has his knock count down to about 12. Anyways, he was much more efficiently tuned this time, and he took me by a couple of cars outs of the hole, another car in 2nd, held at 3 cars in 3rd, and I started inching on him in 4th when he shut down @ 115 mph. About a 2 car loss in the end, he thought it was closer, but I think it was 2 solid cars. I asked him why he shut down in 4th.... he replied "f u". :evil2

Nice, i noticed you have the track pipe, how do you like it? Is it ALOT noisier, or just a little bit?

The trackpipe actually didn't make it alot noisier, it just made the over all tone quite a bit deeper. It also gave me this nice rumble when the RPMs are stepping down, and a pop every now and then. :buttrock
I have never dyno'd with or without the track pipe, but it seems to have improved my top end, however I installed ngk iridiums right when I did my track pipe.

Nice, american muscle goes down :) Just be careful, I got busted for street racing before and the cops don't play arround. 3 tickets at once, and alot of layer fees to come out of it clean.

I didnt get traction till 3rd gear (cuz my tires really suck) and he had maybe 1 cl on me but as soon as i got traction i pulled away and put about 3 cl on him then shut it down. But as soon as i shut down a cop pulled up behind me. :mad ... I was lucky and didnt get a ticket cuz the cop was really cool but im going to take any chances. Next time i probably wont be so lucky.

I got scared last night. I was driving down Route 1 and doing like 60-65 next to like a nissan frontier or some pick up truck. Finally coming up to fairfax county parkway I sped up hopped in front of the truck and made the right hand turn. I had it in 3rd, and made the turn at like 35 or 40. Had pretty good traction, the back end may have slid just a bit. Beautiful though, then I took off, got to like 65 and caught up to the next car on the road and slowed to like 50 (just above speed limit, behind the car ahead). Well I see that pick up truck gaining on me, and another set of headlights in the lane next to it, well the pick up passes me, and those other lights meet up and stick to me. Before they caught up to me, I thought about speeding up and passing this guy and going on, but something told me to hold the speed limit. The lights that hold behind me, resemble crown vic lights, so I definately wasn't trying anything, he sat back there for about a 1/4 mile and then his blinker comes on and he goes around me. Sure enough it was a fairfax county police car. I guess he saw me whip around the turn and was gonna follow to see if I did anything dumb. I was happy.

with your track pipe. Most people say that without cats the exhaust get real stinky. How is it with your car?

Ahhhhh, sorry. I always thought that cars with depleting cats started to stink. This is the 2nd car I have owned that has been catless, the ony oder I notice is from outside the car when standing around the rear end. Occasionally, if im sitting in dead traffic for a minute or two, I can start to smell some fumes. I guess if the odor hasn't made its way to the interior of the car after one year, I should be ok.

I thought about speeding up and passing this guy and going on, but something told me to hold the speed limit.

When my brother had a straight pipe on his NA supra it had a little bit of a smell coming from it but it wasnt that bad either. My car has cats and it still stinks a little but i also need to get a custom chip for it so its mapped for the right injector size. I will get that soon enough.

My buddy has an 04 SVT with an upgraded pulley, cai, and an x-pipe. He turned an 11.71 on street tires last season. He has since then thrown a 100 shot on :eyecrazy We are hoping to see some mid-low 6's in the 1/8 and 10's in the 1/4, on slicks.

I totally know what you mean. I have a weird habit of staring at headlights at night. Trust me it really sucks, but I try to learn headlights of cars, so I can tell the difference of crown vic/impala/whatever compared to a normal car. But I hate being reckless at night, because a cop can hide out anywhere.
