I know the question sounds weird, but I got a paint job last November/December. The weather was really rainy and wet while he painted, but he's been painting for over 40 years, so I knew it would be good job. I got it back, but during the past 2-3 months, it looks like my clear-coat is almost melting off. Places where there used to be clear-coat are now without it, and you can see the scratches from the sanding down of the car. Is this unheard of? I'm going to call him and have him redo it. By the way, I have done nothing to harm the paint. I use a car cover on it every hour I'm at home and I washed it and waxed it regularly. Thanks for the help.

You bet the clear coat can come off. There is no clearcoat on the top of the trunk of my son's 98 323is. Original paint. The color coat is fine, though.
You can see sanding marks? Are you sure they are not swirl marks from washing the car?
Anyway, I'd take the car back to the painter. There shouldn't be a problem this soon.

Clear coat can definitely come off. Though I've never heard of it 'melting' off. Usually when a car has been poorly repainted the clear will 'flake' off. Take it back to the shop.

You didn't use a wax before the paint hardened, did you? I think most people wait 30 days before doing anything but washing new paint.

Nope, I didn't wax it for a good couple of months. It's not flaking off, it's really difficult to describe. Do you guys want pix for me to show you what I'm talking about?
