Picked up my latest E36 M3 in PA yesterday and drove her back to Chicago.

Around 07:00 PM last night, on I-90 westbound just before the I-290 off-ramp, ran into a Alpine White E46 with black rims, a painted rear diffuser, and the CSL trunk; tried a brief run against him for the hell of it; wasn't watching my speed, but probably from around 65-75 up to 110-120 I think. Nice kill for him, he walked me quite easily. I could swear I saw a very small blue flame from the rear of his exhaust when he shifted though.

Later I made my first kill when I walked a G35 coupe, idiot came weaving through traffic behind me, then rode my rear even though the passing lane was open. I pulled into the passing lane and shifted down expected him to following me. Of course he did, right back onto my bumper, so I punched it and walked him all the way up to 120 when I hit some traffic, so I pulled over in the middle as he did a fly-by almost hitting a Yukon.

With a few mods you can hang with a E46, really surprises them. Or you could go FI and take them :devillook

If he has Schrick cams in the car with the Turner cam chip, they seem to have raised the rev limiter a little to take advantage of the new broader hp and tq these cams now enable the engine to produce.
Like I said, if he has cams that is.

The 76xx rev test came with a money shift. I didnt hurt the motor though.

Anyway, it takes more than a few mods to hang with a e46 M3. You need at leat 300hp, or a loss of a few pounds.

You need to update your sig, or did you get a Hartage and put the ///M on it?

I put the M on it. the Motorsport brace is black and a single bar.

As far as HP goes should be 295 at the crank. This is assuming a 17% loss. some say its around 20, this would put me at 306hp

you need to start working on the rest of the N/A mods so you can reach that 300whp mark. :)

But really your only big mod is the cams right? Then you have:

Porsche HFM 3.5:
Jim C 3.5 Intake
24lb injectors
Custom JC Software

Is that the only HP mods you have?

When he flew-by I had already braked for upcoming traffic and was going about 70pmh.

I wonder if the E46 is on here, I would like to know what mods he had to put a blue flame out his exhaust.

Nice race man. Way to get a feel for your new ride! :buttrock

BTW- I am a little fearful of modded e36 M's. :devillook

Even an E36 M3 with cams, chip, injectors, and other supporting mods still shouldnt be able to be even with an E46 M3. The E46 should still gain a few cars, and this is coming from personal experience.

What rest? The only thing left is rods, pistons, and head work. When My motor blows I will do those.

I see an M50 intake manifold in his sig pic. That alone makes a HUGE difference.

well I know there are a couple of guys that have hit 260-270 whp w/o cams. and on the JC site, they advertise cams as being that lost mod to try & hit the 300whp mark.

But also, what about M50 manifold, flywheel, exhaust...I'm sure there may be others. They all do little things but it all adds up too.

Forgot that one. I have seen 26x at the wheels with aftermarket engine management. or extensive engine work.

And by the way I HAVE 300 hp!

ahh ok. Didn't realize you did have 300hp. :)

Also this is Mad Dog 20/20's sig:
NA 267whp/253wtq
Motor: JC OBD2 Cam Kit, Hiop headerz, AA crack pipe, Stromung cat-back, URI crack pulley, GC Jizmo screen, PWR Race Radiator, Mad Dog secret sauce.

Isn't your drivetrain loss factor a bit high? Just wondering out loud here...

CABimmer

17% seems to be about average. Jim C says its closer to 20%. If anyone knows I would expect him to.

I kind of use my own experience here. Most Bone stock M3s are around 200rwhp at 17% 200/.83=240crank hp.
