arg, this was really depressing. a toyota highlander reved at me at a stoplight, and we went. it was pouring rain, and I just couldnt find any traction. my tail was sliding all the way up to 30 when I just gave up. oh well. the highlander was able to launch no problem. are some of them 4WD? so sad - oh well.

Toyota Highlander, here at least, are all AWD. The 6 banger has 225 hp. It's not that big, so if you lose traction, yes, the outcome is logical.

I think they all are AWD, some older Toyota suvs (esp the smaller ones) had a 2 wd - 4 wd option, most of the newer (read: more luxurious) ones are all permanent 4wd.

Too funny! A noble death though none-the-less.

I've beaten quite a few car with way more HP in bad weather. In bad weather it's more about the driver than the car. Not saying I'm a great driver, just saying lotsa guys can't drive as well as they think they can. Not meaning you of course, yours was a noble death. :D

lol it is always funny (not a good thing, but humorous) when somebody racing screws up and wrecks. My buddy Vio said that one time he raced a mustang GT in his 328 or M3, I can't remember which, and the mustang thought he was cool, well when they approached traffic my buddy knew how long he had till he had to stop his car (I wanna say m3 since it stops so well), well when he laid on his brakes to stop, the mustang did the same, and the mustangs brakes aren't quite as good as the M3s I guess and he rear ended some car. :lol3

Some lowered pickup truck tried to race me the other day in the rain. I was going about my business and heard tires loosing traction when a light turned green. At the next light, I realised the truck next to me wanted to race. At green I just eased up on the gas and the truck must have floored it or something since it loss traction (pretty sure it wasn't 4wd). It was a peice of cake kill ;)

I once raced Jeep in the snow while driving a TL-S.

Funny thing was this guy went out of his way to get lined up against me at the light. Light went green, he jumped me through the intersection, I feathered the throttle, got hooked up and then smoked him pretty bad.

The road was salted and there was enough pavement there that he should've been able to predict the outcome. Sometimes though you've just gotta explain things to some people...

The old Xterra was available with a s/c'ed 3.3l V6. It pomped out a whopping (!) 210 hp, vs 170 for the stock engine. Woo-hoo. :rolleyes

My 4Runner has 185hp and 217 lbs of torque, for comparisons basis.

LOL, yep that is what I was talking about. I tell ya, how crappy does nissan get, takes a S/C to get 210 crank hp. :)

I just saw a commercial this morning that the new ones are like 260 or 265 hp. Not sure if htey use a v8 or v6. Also I don't know if it's FI'd or not. :confused

The new Xterra (second gen) uses a 4.0L version of the Vq motor. It is exteremly powerful, tunable (many states of tune throughout the model line) V6.

It has 265 NA. I'm guessing that 265 is a mild state, cause the Z and G35 have a 3.5L VQ with close to 300 hp NA. So it must be tuned for more low end grunt than high end power although I wouldn't be too surprised if you could mod it and get some more power out of it (substantial gains too)

ahhh, so nissan is doing something good. :)

I just couldn't believe when they had the xterra out. When it first came out, I was told that it didn't even have 4WD it's first year. What kind of off road vehicle lacks 4WD? :) But it seems they've turned around and are actually making it a respectable vehicle.

The Xterra has always had 4WD. The target of the Xterra was the Jeep Cherokee (now Liberty)

Thank you for correcting me then. I was told that the first year it was only 2wd, and after that then it had 4wd, but thank you for clarifying. But also I knew that the Cherokee/Liberty were it's competition.

No, they did have 4wd. Only, their transfer case only engaged on the fly up to 25 mph, vs 50 for most other SUVS in the same segment.

They have a 265 hp 4.0 V6. They did that to compete with Toyota whose 4runner now has either the 245 hp 4.0 V6 or the 270 hp 4.7 V8. The 4Runner used to be in competition with the Pathfinder, but the Pathfinder went the way of the gheymobile now.

Nissan is TOTALLY owning the market.

The Xterra was a huge success, then putting the VQ in the Pathfinder in mid 99 was a great move, then the destroyed the competition with the Altima, brought the Z back to life, introduced two full size trucks (Armada + Titan) that are extremely well-rated, renewed the Pathfinder, the Sentra SE-R was pretty badass when it came out (Brembos, 6-speed, etc...) and still hauls major butt, the Murano is a HUGE success, and the Infitnit division is enjoying great success with the G35, G35c and FX series.

I agree with you about how good Nissan is doing. But the SE-R had just titles pretty much to make it sound great. They put the cool looking R from Type R & GTR to make it look cool. Brembos to really attract the "enthusiasts" and 6 speed, lol, from what I've read, that was the most useless 6 speed ever. it was like nissan had them laying around and decided to toss them in instead of making new ones. It was pretty quick, but there were other downfalls of that car as well.

Perhaps, but the Spec V one is a quick little bugger, has 10 more hp than the 5 speed one, etc...

Nice.

Nissan did things right. Of course, you need to mod it, but then again, so do our bimmers...

hehe, yeah. The Spec V's for being what they were, little crappy 4 bangers, they did pretty good. They outdid the civic SI's and I'm guessing were nearly close to the Preludes. It seems most car companies are doing things good now.

Only problem, those companies include hyundai and kia, god I hate to see them succeed for some reason. :)

WEll there was the original SE-R from the Early 90's that was compared to the 2002. The new SE-R was a cornicopia of parts. The Sentra Body with the 2.5L 4 from the Altima, mated to the 6-spd from the Maxima. The 4's in the V-Spec (same as Spec-V in the Skyline GT-Rs but Nissan decided that Spec-V was for the Skyline only, hence they called it V-Spec) have been known to blow up.
And the SE-R still has that stupid live rear axle suspension. :mad :mad

Huh... dude... It IS Spec V, not V-Spec.

And the 4 cylinder in the Vspec is the same as in the regular SE-R.

Giterdone... the Accent is cheap as ****. That's why she leased that (we weren't together yet back then).

Besides, with two kids, you don't want anything too fancy. I freak out when they ride in my 4Runner.

Hugo,

maybe I was unclear. V-Spec debuted in the Skyline GT-r. They put that technology in the SE-R but did not want to ruin/cheapen the image of the Skyline. So instead of calling it V-Spec, they called it Spec-V. Just marketing.

That's not completely true, the normal SE-R is 165hp and the Spec-V is slightly differently tuned @ 175 hp but overall same motor.

But everyone knows the B13 sentra is the only real one (91-94) 22XX lbs, 140 underrated hp, and LSD. With CAI/header and advanced timing I went 9 flat in the 1/8 mile much to some Mustang GT and LT1 camaro's surprise :evil2

Yeah, thats not surprising, look at the new Accord Hybrid. Thanks the to miracle of electric motors which have max torque when they stall aka when they are at a dead stop, they can rocket a car off the line. Then the powerband of the gas motor takes over and then bam, the perfect launch with no strain on either motor. The only downside is the weight, but hey 100 lb-ft of torque at stall, thats pretty dang good and as long as there is traction, you can go.
