View Full Version : Crap!
Dammit, this sucks!
I was moving around parts in the garage this morning & somehow my engine stand gaveway...block is cracked, crank & one of the pistons are scratched deep.
shit! sooo unbelievable! pics are coming as soon as i clean up the mess. :( :(
Broly238 04-01-2005, 10:54 AM ah dude, that sucks... That really sucks.....
yeah....luckily i've got another engine at hand but need to get it machined. and i don't think the crank & that one piston will be usable anymore, short of maybe decoration :rolleyes
BoostedE21 04-01-2005, 11:15 AM YEAH RIGHT!!! u aint fooling me!!! :rolleyes
TheNeek 04-01-2005, 11:19 AM Just saw it with my own eyes. Jason sent me pics on his camera phone. I'm heading up there tomorrow.
dude, i wish it were not so, i'm really bummed. put a lot of money in that block for machine work & some custom stuff.
here's a small pic i just got uploaded: http://members.aol.com/jmusubi/myhomepage/crackedblock.jpg
oldskool3 04-01-2005, 11:41 AM man thats horrible. hopefully the crank and piston are ok and you only need a new block even though that still really sucks. :(
i dunno, the scratch in the crank looks too deep, and the threads @ the end are pretty fudged:

another reminder to anyone building their own engine.....be sure to allow yourself LOTS of garage/working space clear of other car crap.
jjgbmw323 04-01-2005, 12:38 PM Sorry about you engine getting mucked up. :mad Boy that bites.
I have my stroker engine sitting on its side in my second bedroom of my condo. It has not been moved in years. I know it cant be hurt the way it is, and I will be moving it to the engine shop after the rods are done.
later,
joe
blitzed310 04-01-2005, 01:53 PM Im still waiting for you to say April fools????
Jason I hope this isnt true, I'm sorry brotha
AE101 04-01-2005, 02:12 PM engine stand gave out?!?
I really hope this is a bad joke.. :(
but if you are serious, I'm feeling for you bro..
yeah, this blows pretty hard
well the engine stand more like unbolted @ the bottom (i never bothered to check those bolts the day after i assembled the stand)....and other crap fell ontop of it after it went down :( . i'm actually surprised i didn't get hit w/ anything.
i just got everything kinda cleaned up.....too tired/exhausted/frustrated/stressed to do any more work....probably going to chill the rest of the day (probably a good night to drink i guess), and hopefully tomorrow nic & i can figure out if anything can be done to salvage what's left and what parts need to be ordered.
this day = uber suxor :mad
Wow Jason... well i don't know what to say other than im really sorry man...
BoostedE21 04-01-2005, 04:30 PM :nono
Broly238 04-01-2005, 05:45 PM that first picture looks like photoshop cracks, but I still believe you.
BoostedE21 04-01-2005, 06:02 PM dude, i wish it were not so, i'm really bummed. put a lot of money in that block for machine work & some custom stuff.
here's a small pic i just got uploaded: http://members.aol.com/jmusubi/myhomepage/crackedblock.jpg
so what happened with the nice and shiny new pistons u got? Also, i thought your motor was cleaned up as in so marks from the headgasket. again :nono
blitzed310 04-01-2005, 06:22 PM How does a block crack like that? I wanna call BS, but.....
How does a block crack like that? I wanna call BS, but.....
I was just thinking the same thing actually...
BoostedE21 04-01-2005, 06:38 PM How does a block crack like that? I wanna call BS, but.....
let me.... :bs
i had the ARP head studs installed when i mock-installed the head w/ an old headgasket yesterday (didn't want to unwrap the MLS gasket until it was just about to go on)...mainly just to double check that the pistons & valves had enough clearance & check for any unusual slack in the timing chain (and to see how the turbo manifold & turbo looked on it :) muahahaha)
i guess when the block fell, it landed right on the stud or something hit that particular stud pretty hard......and instead of the stud bending or breaking all the force went straight to the block.
block looks like it can be reused w/ some welding......but i wouldn't trust using it on anything other than a stock rebuild. don't want it cracking in half under boost.
JAlfredPrufrock 04-01-2005, 10:40 PM Won't say anything 'til tomorrow.
MattE21 04-01-2005, 10:53 PM damn, damn damn i just got back from jasons. what a mess, what a shame. I am sick to my stomach now. I really cant type, im at a loss for words. i dont know what to say, or what to do now.
Yonkers320is 04-01-2005, 10:57 PM That f-cking sucks Jason, after all the hard work. I think the crank might be fixable, maybe turn the threads and ground/machine the counterweights and journals. Take it to a good machine shop and ask them.
another pic of the cracked block (http://members.aol.com/jmusubi/myhomepage/damagepage.html)
