I noticed a white patch on both sides of my rear rocker panels. I asked a local body shop and they said that its from the sand being blasted....So it needs to be resprayed..$350!!! for both sides. Ridiculous. Take a look of these pictures and tell me 1)if it needs a respray 2)if $350 is too much 3)By any chance I can get rid of this by claying, buffing, or compounding....

Needs resprayed.Give the paint 30 days to cure and have a quality paint film applied to the area. This is a trouble spot for chips and if you do not use a paint protection film it will continue to chip and you will be looking at re spraying yearly.

Rock chips...there's no paint there to restore so you've got to repaint. $350's not bad IF there's a gaurantee. Also make sure they use a soft german paint to avoid having it chip easily. PPG/DuPont paints are hard paints that chip easily from rock impacts. After it cures, you may want to look into Stongard or something similar.

WRX,

As stated above, if you want to keep the car looking nice, get the areas repainted, and after the new paint cures get some film on those areas. On one of my cars I had both rear quarters done, and it is very reassuring to know that those areas are protected from the abuse shown in your pictures.
Flaws on dark colored cars are always more apparent, so paint film is the best protection from rocks, sand, and everything else you might encounter on the road.
You could also get a quote from a mobile paint business, their prices are usually reasonable for bumpers, panels, etc.

The $350 was a quote from a guy who my friend referred to. But I kept looking around and went to my bodyshop (BMW). They gave me a quote for $220 including taxes. That covers painting entirely both of the rocker panels and buffing out a major scratch on my right fender. I also just received the 3m protective film today to cover over where the paint got damaged in the first place. I will post pics.

I just got a quote from a local detail store and they said they would put the film on for $50. I guess thats a good price. Any opinions??? :)
