View Full Version : D*(&!!! iT! I'm stuck with the dishes for awhile!
GriMpY 03-29-2005, 08:44 PM Looks like I am going to be stuck with my 18" Dish wheels for a bit... As some of you may recall, I curbed my rim a few weeks back and I got these MAE looking suckers so I can get my wheels refinished...
Looks like I may end up just selling the Maya's because I found out my front tires were rubbing the coilovers and at least one maybe both will need to be replaced. If only my stupid spacer was 5mm larger it would have cleared...
I was doing fine until I got the shorter springs which dropped the car another 3/4" right next to the sidewall of the tire! :(
This is my dilemma.
1) Get 30mm spacers so I can keep my car the same height and not rub the coilover ... They need to be custom made 74mm to 72mm hub approx. $160
2) Get new front tires approx... $400
3) Get wheels refinished... $600
I can either go with 1 & 2 and forget the refinish... or get 2 & 3 and raise the car up another 1/2" to clear the coilovers... or 1, 2, and 3 but be very broke... or just forget about the wheels and get rid of them to some E46 M3 owner since they are made for them. :(
Either way I am stuck with these dish wheels until I decide what to do with the Maya's... :( the ride is pretty good on 18's though... If I sell these Maya's I may consider downsizing to 18's as well...
What should I do??? :( :( :(
paul540/m3 03-29-2005, 09:07 PM It's gonna cost you a lot more to replace them and possible cost of new tires involved there too. I say just do it once but right by doing 1,2,and 3. Plus selling those ugly rims will offset the costs a bit.
my 2cents
GriMpY 03-29-2005, 09:18 PM Yeah I thought about doing everything at once but that won't be able to happen until another month or so. But then $1160 is what it is going to cost me to put these suckers back on with great tires and looking as good as new, with the centers black... If I decide to get new rims in the near future, I would take a pretty huge loss, more than I would if I just sold these now... :( I should have just kept my darn LM's from the roady!
stuntride 03-29-2005, 09:30 PM i say do 1, 2, and 3, your car looks too good to change it. and as i recall you said you were pretty much done for modding ur car for a bit. everyones different but i just dont think i would be happy with changing to something not as cool as what you have. and if u do go with 18's you still have to pay for those so......
just my opinion, but i went with 17's on my car and ever so wish i would have gotten 18's and will be replacing them in a few months or so, hope it helps

You're right I did say I was done with my car... I got the M5 style mirrors because the seller had a prepainted one for only $275 shipped so I thought, why the heck not... Then I curbed the rim, keeping in mind that my front one was curbed already and the rear one the stupid tire shop flaked the center when he was mounting the new rear tires as well as all the knicks on the rims, I thought why not... just refinish them in black... :( now after finding out my front tire will need to be replaced, it blows!
I think I may end up just getting some cheap tires and the spacers and forget the refinish... I always have bad luck with tires... :(
I would get them refinished in their standard finish and sell them. Get wheels in the proper offset. A lot of people say using spacers puts undue stress on the wheel bearings and suspension bushings. There are plenty of nice wheels out there.
paul540/m3 03-29-2005, 10:22 PM This is what i suggest, Don't skimp on spacers, get some decent spacers or you may have trouble later. Get some bridgestone fuzion tires GREAT bang for the buck and decent treadwear. As for the refinishing, either put it off or do it now depending on the remaining funds.
i'd raise the car 1/2 an inch if i were you... just me. don't like such low riding cars unless i'm on the track.

Shardul 03-30-2005, 01:04 PM Keep the same ride height and downsize to 18. Ride will be alot better like you mentioned and the wheels will be a lot more forgiving to harsh road conditions. Car will still have that arrgessive low look with the 18's
islandbeef 03-30-2005, 01:30 PM Dang, when they said mod disease was expensive, they weren't kidding.
:(
unesential 03-30-2005, 01:36 PM 1,2,3 go broke, suffer until summer then enjoy.

I was thinking the same... If i sell these and get some 18's I would have cash left over... It would be nice with extra cash since I plan on going to Hawaii over the summer... Luckily I got these dish wheels to roll on for now so I can keep my options open... :confused

lol... if I go broke I won't be able to enjoy summer... :(
GriMpY 04-07-2005, 08:32 PM Quick update...
^%#* America's Tire Co! They tried to jack me!
Last week, I went in to America's Tire Co by the mall to get my front tires flipped and they told me that at least one of them had a bubble around the whole tire on the inside and very likely the other one also. They tried to sell me a new set of tires but I told them I would wait on it.
Anyways... Today I decide to just keep my Maya's and went to get a set of tires from a local rim shop and found out that the POS America Tire Co. guy lied and tried to scam me... The inside sidewall of both tires were as good as new... No damage to it... Just the inner part where they stick the bar into. I found this out after they already mounted my new tires on... I asked the installer if my S03's were still good... and he said yeah... Then he asked me why I got new ones when my thread was still very good... ^(%$!!!!!!
Ok anyways... So yeah... NO MORE DISH WHEELS!
Black528i 04-08-2005, 10:57 AM OT: What are dish wheels?

:D These are dish wheels! Looks like a dish.
grecobeemer 04-08-2005, 04:56 PM Many laugh, but I'd rock 'em. Being a server means I can't afford to do anything but pay bills :(
Do I here a donation of wheels for first mod??? :D
