Here is one for the record book

I have a 2000 528i with sport & lux package 5 speed

Yesterday here in MA we had a rainstorm. I came home from work & parked my car infront of my brand new ($1200 & less than 2 months old) garage door

I went inside to take a call & check email

Less than 5 min later I get up to get a snack & see MY F-N CAR CRASHED INTO MY GARAGE DOOR!!!! I RAN OUT & LOOKED & THE CAR WAS IN 1ST GEAR WITH THE E-BRAKE ON

I hopped in the car & started it (smelt an electrical smell) & backed the car up about 3 feet from the door

No sooner did I step out of the car & the starter (with no key in ignition) turned over & moved my car approx 1 1/2 feet from where it originally was- car has no damage b/c the garage door cushioned the blow & b/c it was only a gradual move POSSESSED!!!!! :devillook

I got in the car & started it up (now the starter sounded labored) I drove to my local repair shop

When I shut the car down & went to start it up agin -- nothing

HAS ANYONE HAD ANY TYPE OF THING LIKE THIS HAPPEN???

I AM ASSUMING IT IS A STARTER RELAY OR SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE STARTER-- BUT SERIOUSLY WHAT THE F!!!!!!! :eyecrazy :eyecrazy

ANY RECALLS ?? ON STARTERS, COMPUTERS, ANYTHING YOU GUYS CAN HELP ME WITH??

I think there is a ghost in your house or your vehicle... Don't you need to step on the clutch to turn the car on? Your E-brake was up and you were in first gear so it shouldn't have moved... If anything wouldn't it have just choked? That is some freaky stuff...

Nothing theoretically abnormal here. If you kept your car in neutral than it would not move even if when your starter engaged all of the sudden. I think problem is somewhere on the low level, maybe even in the starter solenoid itself. If it sticks and tends to power up starter from time to time that this behavior is very easy to explain. BTW, beemer in first is geared very low, so moving car by starter only not not hard to do.
Check your starter and see if you have sticky solenoid that does not disengage fully and than go from there.
