I am trying to spend as little money on this car as possible, while still trying to make it "mine". I can't stand the ride height and I dont have funds to buy springs, so I was wondering what kind of result I would get with cutting the stock springs.
If you have cut your springs, or have ridden in an E21 with cut springs, please give me some insight so I don't make a mistake I will regret.
How bouncy is the car now?
How has the handling changed?
Would you do it again?

thanks in advance

DONT DO IT :nono

Id rather leave it 2 feet in the air then cut the springs, I speak for 99.5% of the population on this one

Why take a chance an hurt yourself when driving and the spring crumbles.

CJ is right, you are crazy if you cut your springs.
Save up and buy a set of lowering springs otherwise dont touch it.

And whatever you do don't take a torch to em!!!! :nono PO of my car did that and while it did lower the front end the ride sucks!!! Every little rut or bump in the road sends shivers through the whole front end. Another thing on my list of to-do's on my car is to get new shocks n springs.

Cutting springs is free, and you get what you pay for. :)

Free is the part I like. I don't mind the bouncy feel, I have driven a few cars with cut springs and some are ok, some feel like sh!t.

I only know of one guy who has done that, it was to an old Corolla (AE86), he cut quite a bit off. He ended up wreaking his struts pretty fast, and the ride was not so good.

if you do end up going that path, against our pleas, at least try to source a set of stock springs u can swap back in once u realise the mistake you made on your current springs.

Lowering springs will only set you back $200 or so. If you're going to take the springs out to cut them, it only makes sense to do it all right once, get lowering springs, and new shocks at the same time.

I was a young(er) ;) grasshopper a few years back when i did my suspension, and put on eiback sport springs with TOAST front shocks. It was the pits, while the car looked low as hell, b'c the front shocks had no rebound, i scraped on a lot of things, and it was gross with the front end not moving up and down properly.

I bit the bullett, and bought new front strutts, and while i had the front end back out to install them, i replaced the control arms, tie rods, and front upper shock mounts.

the difference was noticeable and well deserved. the front end had minimal vibration at 55, and the handling was much better than stock.

dont get me wrong, your car will still have major body roll even with springs and shocks, but it is night and day over stock.

Best route, save the cash, and get coilovers. I'd love a set but dont want to spend more than i paid for my car on them!

I dont think i am going to cut the springs..i wanted feedback on who has done this because some cars are ok with cut springs and some arent, I wanted to see if the E21 was one of the cars that was.....i guess not.

ichiwan2, what's your spring/strut setup? looks pretty low.
