Any of you guys know anything about the auto tranny selector in the E-21. mine is out of whack it seems (that's what I get for buying a $25.00 BMW) I was having an issue where it wouldn't shift all the way into park or into 1st gear. I discovered that the previous owner was using the selector as a change storage bin and I pulled $1.64 in change out the selector box...it now goes into first. I then undid the 3 bolts that hold the selector in place and found I could get it all the way into park if the box was loose. I can't crawl under the car yet since we don't close on the new house with the concrete garage floor untill next wed....but I think the selector rod is bent.
Have any of you auto guys had a bent selector rod before? can I bend it back easily or should I try and find a new one?
I also have a messed up selector arm too. it appears the spring is missing off the bottom so it doesn't lock into the gears. the shift knob is loose on the top...can I even buy that part new? or can I pick up that spring and install it...
I'm just trying to get the car road worthy...
I hopefully will have a manual tranny + related parts this summer, but want to get the auto tranny working right in the mean time....
I need to drive this beast over to the new house on the April 1st.....
anyone have a good cheap suspention (stock or otherwise) laying around their garage? I broke the law and took my uninsured, unsmogged, unregistered 320i for a .6 mile spin around the block and I felt like i was on boat in rough seas...so my guess is the shocks are toast....
