There are no course photos, we design the course that morning so we can see the conditions of the lot and if we need to avoid a certain areas.

You are welcome to come and watch, however, once you see it you would have wanted to enter it! Why don't you enter?

Sorry to Hear That! :violinist j/k Congrats! :D

The rallies are a highly competitive event, however it is not a speed oriented event. The event is done at street speeds. The object is to go from point A to write down course markers on the answer sheet as you pass them, and arrive at the unknown point B location as close to correct time as possible. Usually we get about 50-60 cars that enter a rally. It is fine for a newbie, we all had to start somewhere!

This would make a good Elvis List on Z100!

ZMorning ZOO Elvis List: The Challenges of Road Rallies

driving at night

not knowing where you are going

turning on your highbeams, realizing they swicth back to the low beams

getting confused on over simplified directions

not trying to kill each other in the car - driver or navigator

finding the course markers

reading the course markers

trying to find the pen you just dropped on the floor because you just saw a course marker

turning the dome light on so you can find the pen, instantly blinding the driver, who now misses the next course marker because you can't find the pen

trying to keep the average speed

second guessing yourself or co-driver

when you get lost, trying to find your way back

when you find that you are lost, you try to figure out where you got lost,
which is usually 4 directions before you got to the point you did

yelling at each other about who's decision it was to enter this

AND Finally

When you do make it to the end of the rally and get to the restaurant, you try to drink alcohol as much as possible to forget everything you just did!

I'm a bit confused since this is a rally wouldn't we need an awd vehicle? Is this done on dirt out in the sticks somewhere? I'm kinda confused do you have any pics from previous events?

a rally doesn't have to be on the dirt. In this case it you drive on public roads at normal speeds and try to find checkpoints. There is no advantage in driving a ferrari compared to a yugo, it's all about reading maps and keeping your eyes open!

The rally is designed to be used by any stock production vehicle, no modifications area necessary. Most people due use SUV's or Subaru's but that's their choice. SUV's sometimes have an advantage due to their headlights being higher off the ground for better visibility.

There are usually a couple of dirt roads that are used, some roads may also be pretty rough.

The rally starts at Applebee's Restaurant in Mt Kisco. Generally the rally goes for abot 2.5 hrs about 60-70 miles and winds up back at Applebee's, the Rally does not Finish at Applebee's, usually the finish is somewhere with in a 10 minute drive to Applebee's.

Exactly, generally the average speed is about 25 mph, so if you drive the speed limit, you are already making time. Since the rally is at night, some people add extra lighting to their vehicles so they can see the road and course markers easier.

The Autocross at Orchard Beach is different then the Rally that rmani and texture are asking about.

The WSCC hosts Autocrosses and Rallies. The rallies start in Mt Kisco and most of the roads used are in upper Westchester County, sometimes we do go into Putnam, Dutchess or even CT for some of it.

I just got the Official Word from the Club Pres:

We regret to announce that our 2005 schedule is on hold. The April 2nd
event has been cancelled and the April 17th and May 1st events are not
likely to occur.

New site administrators have indicated that our usage of the site does
not fit the intended use of the facility. We hope to work this issue
out with the managers of this site or have another site available to us
soon. For the time being, check our web site for updates on this
matter, we will keep it updated as we get more information.

I'm not pissed about not running my car, there is an autocross on Sunday at the Meadowlands, so I'll be going to that.

I am pissed about losing the best site in the Tri-State area and all the work we have done to get access to that site and all the plans that we had for this year at that site! :mad

Sounds good to me as long as I can get my car back on the street in time.
