Put your hand into the cubby and reach your finger through the hole in the top. Apply pressure to the spring action clip on the bottom side of the OBC and then pull out at the same time.

View Full Version : DIY: Removing sunglass cubby old skool 03-24-2005, 09:40 AM Put your hand into the cubby and reach your finger through the hole in the top. Apply pressure to the spring action clip on the bottom side of the OBC and then pull out at the same time. old skool 03-24-2005, 09:41 AM Pull the OBC all the way out and remove the cables if you like. Then lift up on the cubby while gently pushing down and forward on the bottom part where it clips to the shifter surround just above the shifter boot. old skool 03-24-2005, 09:43 AM Tilt the cubby forward and wiggle it out of the shifter console. old skool 03-24-2005, 09:43 AM This is what the cables look like from the back. Remove them simply by pulling them out. old skool 03-24-2005, 09:45 AM Apply even pressure to the back of the switches and push them up through the console to remove. old skool 03-24-2005, 09:46 AM this is what the wires look like going to the back of the cigarette lighter. old skool 03-24-2005, 09:46 AM It's out. old skool 03-24-2005, 09:47 AM Install new cubby in reverse order old skool 03-24-2005, 09:48 AM Just push the OBC back into place and you are done. hellrot325 03-24-2005, 09:58 AM WHen I looked at your pics, I remember why I did the Woodgrain Delete Mod. Why did you replace the whole cubby though? old skool 03-24-2005, 10:19 AM eh...why not? I had the other cubby and now I can sell the complete cubby with wood grain...if anyone will buy it. hellrot325 03-24-2005, 10:25 AM eh...why not? I had the other cubby and now I can sell the complete cubby with wood grain...if anyone will buy it. Just because you could have changed the insert for $7 and not have had to buy the new cubby or remove it is all. The insert is a seperate part and is replaceable. old skool 03-24-2005, 10:28 AM yeah...but I had fun and got to do the write up. ;) But that is good info for others. Thanks hellrot325 03-24-2005, 10:30 AM yeah...but I had fun and got to do the write up. ;) But that is good info for others. Thanks "If it ain't broke, fix it" ;) parolof 03-24-2005, 02:30 PM Thanks for taking all this trouble to make these great DIY guides, keep up the good work!! :) old skool 03-24-2005, 03:06 PM Glad it was helpful. bigbilly 04-04-2005, 01:12 PM Just because you could have changed the insert for $7 and not have had to buy the new cubby or remove it is all. The insert is a seperate part and is replaceable. When I swapped out my woodgrain insert, I had to remove the whole cubby to get it out as I didn't want to risk breaking the wood panel. I'm glad I did - I don't think I could have removed the panel without taking out the cubby first. NYY42 09-09-2007, 07:37 PM Some of these things should be self-explanatory lol. XMRocks 09-28-2007, 03:51 PM Thanks for the writeup... I need this because I plan to remove mine to drill for my XM Roady. roarf 11-25-2007, 10:31 PM My 12 V socket is not working and that's no good because I can't plug my portable air compressor into my own car to pump up the tires. So, you have to take the OBC out to get to it, right? This may be a dumb question but, do I need to disconnect the battery before doing this? old skool 11-25-2007, 10:48 PM No need to disconnect the battery. roarf 12-20-2007, 11:28 AM Did this the other day to see what was wrong with my cig lighter socket. And like a dumbass, I didn't think to check the fuse first. :crazya Yep, that was it, lol. Oh well, it was easy to access the lighter socket, no tools needed to remove OBC and sunglass cubby. :) |
