Hi,
I read few threads about radio code about getting it FREE at the dealer. I went to the dealer and I was charged $39.99 + tax for a code. She said no FREE radio code.
Is it right?

If I were you I would call BMW North America Customer support line and rip into that dealer. That is just a crock. All they have to do is get your VIN# and look it up into their computer. Demand a refund immediately.
Total Ripoff.

Did they remove the stereo to get to the number? Because, as slimely as it is, I can see where they would claim a half hour's worth of labor..not that I agree, but I can their claim.
All in all, it's bullshit. I actually called BMW NA and talked it over with a rep who said "BMW does not regulate on non warranty work" so he suggested you take it to the GM of the dealership. Let him know that the BMW board you are on is aware of his dealerships slimey practices.

I just spoke with Teresa at BMW North America Customer Relations (thanks to SS328 for the number). She said BMW NA can't control what a dealer charges a customer. I told her that people at this forum got codes for FREE from the dealers ... but she could not do anything for me.

Chalk it up to experience. It's probably not worth your time.

Yes, I mentioned about this bimmer board to Teresa and she knew about this board. Looks like this board gets very known by dealers, perhaps. Do they care about what being discussed about? Who knows.
It was another experience with a dealer for me. I hope my car will not break down so I don't have to bring it to any BMW dealer.
I will try to talk to some manager at Difeo BMW tomorrow.

I guess everyone has a bad dealer experience at least once.
When something happens that you don't know how to deal with, just ask us on the board. Someone will get back to you with an answer whenever you need it. We could have for sure handled this radio code issue for free, and you wouldn't have to leave your house to do it.
