JoeyAnderson 03-23-2005, 07:44 PM I've been looking at BMW's recently, and I'm thinking of buying one.
It'd be sweet to have a little get-together to see all the BMWs and just meet up with you guys to hang out. Have you all ever done anything like this before?
I'd be willing to organize it if you guys would be willing to come. :buttrock

gooten1 03-30-2005, 10:42 AM I'm in Columbia, SC. I've been trying to get a meet-up going on on something other than a Saturday (I have to work weekends.) I'd be game for heading to Charlotte or some place on the border for a big NC/SC meet. If nothing else, come to one of the meetings I've set up in Columbia.

Mike,
Go see Bob Shields at Bavarian Auto service in Fort Mill. He's a long time CCA'er, instructor, etc. Good guy and he'll take care of you.
Oh, and you MUST go check out victory lane karting. Its a requirement for all enthusiasts in/around Charlotte.

gooten1 04-29-2005, 12:01 PM Who's interested in a meeting in the Charlotte area?
turnerNCM3 04-29-2005, 01:39 PM Charlotte, NC.
Slowly but surely the NC area is finding representation.
5speed300 04-29-2005, 04:20 PM Raleigh, NC here.
Carmageddon 04-29-2005, 04:22 PM im in greer sc 10min from bmw plant
poofusjackson 05-01-2005, 06:02 PM we have any kind of a date or place in mind? if not late May would be good, in charlotte or raleigh? maybe W-S?
Carmageddon 05-02-2005, 01:20 AM ya we should get a meet going for sometime in may. lets get somethin going and try get a nice turnout
gooten1 05-02-2005, 12:52 PM I could make a drive up to WS. Charlotte is closer, but WS might be easier for the NC folks to get to. Exams will be done this week, so any time is good for me. Give me a heads up so I can take a day off work.
Last time I hosted a meet, we met up somewhere, cruised to get wings, then went to a movie. I don't want to stand around the whole time, but I do want to spend a bit checking out everyone else's rides.
BimmerBoyZ3 05-02-2005, 12:53 PM I vote for another charlotte meet.
Carlman 05-02-2005, 03:01 PM Hey, I'm from Colatown... I live in Durham now and should have my new 325i next week. (I'm buying it from a dealer in Boston and driving it home.)
It'd be a blast to meet with you all sometime later in May... or even early June. I'm active in a local hifi club and we have a couple of meetings this month.
Charlotte would be OK. So would Columbia... so would Raleigh... :) Just depends on when...
BTW, if anyone wants to swap their aluminum trim for wood, let me know.
poofusjackson 05-02-2005, 03:13 PM how bout the 21st/22nd or 28th/29th of May?
gooten1 05-02-2005, 04:25 PM I found a great road today. It's built like a highway overpass...4 lanes wide with a huge median (paved) in the middle. It has a couple curves that were rather fun, and which I took at around 65. One end was on I-77, the other end winds up in Cayce past the CMC steel plants. I don't remember the name of the exit...it's the one that runs toward Cayce with one end (away from Cayce) is blocked off.
The 28/29th would be good...end of the month.
huckleberry 05-02-2005, 05:20 PM Charlotte, NC
Would love to get together sometime, but I work at a BMW dealership (open Saturdays) so I could only go on Sundays.

poofusjackson 05-03-2005, 10:05 PM yeah, if we are gonna have it in Charlotte we need to have some Charlotte guys organize it who know their way around....

schussey, any chance I saw you on hwy 16 (brookshire) heading north last week (maybe the week before)? Saw a really nice ti, but don't remember the color exactly. Female driver IIRC (or maybe you just have long hair).
Why not meet at Victory lane? They've got a large parking lot. Just a suggestion. :devillook

If you're interested in a GB, it would most likely take place somewhere around early June (until the 7th) or after June 14th.

There isn't much to do there except Karting. However, its right off 85 at Statesville ave (near the 77/85 interchange) so you can get to just about anywhere in Charlotte w/in 10-20 minutes.

AbeM3 05-09-2005, 06:59 PM It's a good idea to always call victory lane ahead of time to make sure someone hasn't rented the track or something.
Not sure if I can make it, but I will definately try (2 month old in the house).
Bremsen 05-10-2005, 10:21 AM It's a good idea to always call victory lane ahead of time to make sure someone hasn't rented the track or something.
Forgot to mention that. They also hold an endurance race the first Sunday of every month.....so the track is closed from 2-5:30.
Carmageddon 05-10-2005, 10:36 PM that sounds great. ill defiently be there if it happens there or where ever. probly in my e30. if i can find the time to drop in the new tranny and suspension by then

gooten1 05-11-2005, 10:41 AM Victory Lanes sounds good. We planning on just meeting there or are we going to go karting as well?
Ah, what the hell. Lets ride go carts! I can't remember the last time I drove one...probably when I was a kid and owned one. We can get into less trouble racing carts than we can racing our cars (and on a cart, I stand a chance of winning, whereas in my car....). Sure, we can just hang out for a while too. Just don't break the meet up into little cliques. That's what makes meets suck.
poofusjackson 05-13-2005, 09:49 AM ok guys, the 28th/29th of May is quickly approaching. Looks like we are planning on meeting at victory lanes and possibly going karting, unless someone has some better ideas??? (I'm not down in Charlotte much so I really don't know what else there is to do, so if any locals have some other ideas, that would be great). I think we had ageed on Sunday the 29th to meet, how about a time? I'm not sure when (or if) Victory Lanes is open on Sundays but I will give them a call on my lunch break and find out, but if they are we could do their "Super Prix" race...
Drivers will be given a personal briefing on track safety, pointers on how to maneuver around the 1/3-mile road course track. They will then participate in a 10-minute practice session. After the session they will view time sheets on their performance. then they will test their skills in a 10-minute Qualifying session to determine their starting position for the Championship race. Karts will be set-up on the grid for the 10-minute final race.
so anyway let's get a head count of who is going to be there and who is going to go karting and that way I can call Victory Lanes by Monday and see if we can even book the track for all of us and to check on pricing.
So please copy the list below and add your name if you are planning on going. Add a '$$' next to your name if you are planning on going karting, also, if you are bringing friends, mark them down too.....from all the posts this is who said they are going so far...

gooten1 05-18-2005, 09:46 AM Remember kids, if you're in the SC area, come out to lunch at Beef O'Bradys on Hardscrabble Rd. in northeast Columbia. This Saturday (21st) at 3 p.m. Afterwards, we can go do something, then I'm having a Bimmers-only dinner at Icy's Sports Bar on Two Notch, right by the Columbia Place mall. That's at 8 p.m. The Beef's meet up is for all makes and models, but I'd like to see more than just my BMW out there. Either way, try to make one of those. If nothing else, eat some good food and drink some cold beer.

Dude! I don't know what it is about the window regulators on E36's, but they simply suck.
Both of mine are inop (for about the 3rd or 4th time) so I finally said screw it and am now leaving my door panels off so I can push the windows up manually. :rolleyes
My old 318is (e36) had the same problems. E36 regulator arms are so weak that if the window snags just a bit, the tin foil-like arms warp. @ 85$ a regulator....this ain't kosher.
I never had problems with the regulators on my E28 or E30. They used a different design which never should have been "improved" upon.

gooten1 06-10-2005, 10:58 AM Missed this CCA meeting due to being in Pennsylvania and having my car wrecked while it was in a parking lot. I'm super pissed at whoever did this...the grille is all mashed in, the hood won't close all the way, the bumper is a wee bit banged up, and somethings dragging while I turn. Bastarts...
