View Full Version : Tire wear of A3SO4's compared to V710's
bogdan 03-22-2005, 08:36 PM I'm kind of stuck right now. The A3SO4's are going for a good deal, and so are the newer, V710's.
My main concern is.. will the Hoosiers be able to handle 20 autox's.. about 60 runs?
Am I going to have to get another set of tires haldway through the season, or can I get away with the Hoosiers for that many autox's?
Anyone have any experince with the life of these two?
:help
TIA

I was able to get 50-55 runs before cording one of my A3S04s. This was with 225/45-15s installed on a 2700 lb E30. I would have been able to get much better wear had I flipped the tires mid-season. Unlike the A3S03s, the 04s were pretty consistent throughout their entire lifespan.

that makes a little worried.. as my 328 weighs 500lbs more than your E30.
Not like I can make it go on a diet either. :(
jmott 03-22-2005, 11:29 PM I got about 70 runs worth out of my a3s04s on my 325
however, that is on a DSP car (2900lbs, plenty of camber and spring)
with 245mm wide tires

PedalFaster 03-23-2005, 12:21 AM We got well over 100 runs on the A3S04s on the Stock-class S2000 I codrove last year. Flipping's crucial, though; about 40 runs in, the shoulders on one of the fronts started looking very ragged. Had we not flipped the tires, I'm sure they would have corded after around 50 runs.
I'd be worried about running them on a 3-Series with no front camber, though.

megatron 03-23-2005, 03:03 AM 73 runs on a streetmod m3, unflipped and the still look like they have plenty of meat. stuck still at the end and i'll bet if we flipped em and kept running them could have gotten maybe 50 more + with victoracer or better stick.
bogdan 03-23-2005, 11:18 AM Ok.. I'm glad to see some of the E36 people get some life out of them. I was worried about running two series on them.
The car has a little bit over 2deg of camber(front), but I might wind up getting camber plates depending on wether I need more bite up front.
What pressures are you DSP guys running?
John in Houston 03-23-2005, 11:32 AM The DSP car I co-drove at the Arkansas National Tour has (now) 70+ runs on it's V710s (285/35/18s). They still have quite a bit of life left on them.
FWIW, the A3SO5s come out next week (official release is April 1 according to those 'in the know' on www.sccaforums.com ). These tires are supposed to be as fast or faster than the V710s (depending on who you listen to).

Or slower. We won't know until they're out.

Or the same....
but gauranteed to be more expensive with less contingency :D

One data point? I'll grant you Erik is a reliable source, but it's still one data point, as opposed to several more data points from Nats '04. :dunno

What data points are there on S05 vs 710 from Nats? The only public or private data points I've heard are from the Strelnieks. Brian will probably have a set of 05s very soon (Beth is codriving his car in L1 this year).

None. But there are good data points on the performance of the V710 from Nats which is what I was referring to. Until we see some more data, we won't know if the S05 is significantly faster than the S04.

bogdan 03-24-2005, 08:34 PM aww hell..
I wont be driving them that fast anyway. I'll just stick to the SO4's since I dont have to pay for shipping, and that comes out to 150 less than the V710's.
I'm autoxing on a budget. :(

The S04s are on 40% off fire sale right now, are you getting that price?

you bet! :D
that is why I started the topic. The 710's are a little more.. but I'm trying to keep myself honest. The S04's will have enough grip, at least for me.
But this way.. if I feel like they are not letting me hit my best time, I can use that as an excuse later on. :D
