I'd probably go with 17" slicks... the more flex you can get out of that tire the better. Probably more choices for reasonable size slicks/DR's in 17's versus 18's. I'd probably pick based on the tire sizes available... Boris PourkyM3 03-23-2005, 12:10 AM So the best deal is probably the BFGs, right? And your saying go with 16" rims instead of 17s? Also for some reason the link is not working. MrBlonde 03-23-2005, 08:42 AM You want the biggest sidewal you can get. Hence the smallest rim you can live with. 17 is better than 18 but 15 is the bomb. You cannot get real drag radials in any size other than 15". If you must have 17" wheels, then get BF Goodrich gForce "drag radials" and live with them. PourkyM3 03-23-2005, 11:14 AM Well I can go either 15s or 17s. I still have to look around for some real light rims to put the DRs on too. Give me some prices and weights of some 15s. I know the SSR Comps are pretty light, but they're 17s. confuZion3 03-23-2005, 11:19 AM Yeah, about the sidewall size. For some reason, I know already that a 15 inch rim with lots of sidewall on the tire is great, but I don't know why. I see super-slow-mo shots of the high powered cars taking off and you see the tire kind of twist through the sidewall. Is this just another sort of "shock" absorber so that you don't just end up spinning while comming off of the line, kind of like clutch slippage? I guess that the tire also flattens out on the bottom leading to more grip to. How/why does this small wheel/large tire combo actually work? ///3oris 03-23-2005, 11:41 AM Well I can go either 15s or 17s. A 15" rim won't fit on your M3... I tried putting a 15" from my 325is on my M3 and it didn't work (yes, even in the rear!) Boris MrBlonde 03-26-2005, 07:18 AM A 15" rim won't fit on your M3... I tried putting a 15" from my 325is on my M3 and it didn't work (yes, even in the rear!) Boris That's incorrect. You can fit a 15" rim on the rear of an M3. Big sidewalls allow for a lot of flex which increases the contact patch. |
