Inspired by this thread: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=332336 and the fact that I don't know which pad is 'better.'

Now, if you're picking a street pad that you want to use at a few newbie DE's, which would you pick (and if possible, why). The choice is Axxis Ultimates or Hawk HPS. Assuming squeel and dusting makes no difference to me, I only care about how the pad performs as a brake pad on the TRACK. I'm sure either will be good enough on the street. So, if you needed a newbie pad, which would you go with?

Oh yeah, price doesn't matter either.

Thanks,

Boris

I did a bunch of events on ultimates, they worked for me and my skill level. Eventually I out grew them, but they worked great for me. Two of my friends just stared tracking this year and both use axxis ultimates, both love them, and seem to work well. Even in Texas heat. They will transfer pad material when pushed out of their heat range.

Brake pads are a tough thing to reccomend, everyone likes a different feel. They will also tell you the pad they are using is the best.

Yup, great point... talking about heat ranges, which has a better/higher heat range?

I haven't tried the HPS, although I have also never had an issue with ultimates ;-)

Bump... Ultimates are winning :stickoutt

SG, thanks for the link, but I hate calling vendors just to ask questions... I don't want to be a bother. I also don't want to call him just to do my research, because then I'll have to call every other shop that sells brakes and tracks often (most of which have representatives on the boards anyway).

I run the Ultimates on the M3 and the HP+ on the Mustang Cobra. I'm very happy with the Ultimates performance on the M3, but the difference between the stock pads and the HP+ on the Cobra was just astounding. Especially for being such a heavy car. They will haul that 3700 lbs car do in a hurry, burying the front end, and don't fade nearly as much as I thought they would. They do squeel quite a bit when street driving and you really have to get some heat into them before they work.

I've talked to Andie before...we're all enthusiasts and we love this (some of us are just lucky to make a career out of it). You won't be bothering anyone, and believe me all the research is already done! Anyone that acts bothered when you ask for help isn't worth your business. Besides, have you called David Zeckhausen yet?

Alright, just called Andie, very helpful guy! He suggested I go with the Ultimates since they're more geared to what I'd want and would hold me over longer than the HPS.

Thanks everyone for your input...
