I just read in another post that 5-30 weight oil is not ideal for the M3. Just wanted to ask you guys in the tri-state area what weight you run. I'm currently using Mobil One 5-30. Thanks.

u want to look at mobil one 0W-40. its the only mobil1 oil that is approved.

i use mobil1 0W-40, it doesnt burn at all compared to 5W-30. with the 5w30 i had to put oil like every week. 0w-40, only had to put in a little oil once in the past 3000 miles ive had it so far. i change every 4000 miles though.. and i dont have a m3, i have a zhp, but requires high performance synthetic oil nonetheless

i did notice it was kinda tough to find 0w-40, i found it at a walmart though like 20 minutes away from me, my local kmart and pepboys didnt have them

I'm using M1 0w40 too, but I've heard bad things about every oil based on someones mechanic told them it breaks down bla bla bla. Whatever, the car seems to like it and it meets every standard that BMW designed the engine for.
