Was wondering if the pads and sanding disks used for the PortaCable used a smoothe shaft that you have to clamp the unit to or are threaded and you "screw" the pads onto the unit.

I have a DA sander that is air driven and it uses the threaded shafts.

Since I already have a DA/Orbiting tool, I figured I might as well just use it instead of buying an entire new tool and use the foam disk on my DA if possible.

Thanks!

they are threaded.

Cool! Thanks man :) , that helps out alot!!

My only problem is that NOBODY in town has foam pads like that here. I guess it's mail order time...

Yep, do what I did. Buy hook/loop backing pads for both machines. Then you can use the same pads on both.

just to be more clear. a velcro backing plate screws into the machine, then the pads are just pressed onto the backing plate. :)

Looking at the price of a foam pad w/shipping I decided to go to O'rielliy's Auto parts and bought their 6" foam pad that has a smooth shaft (for drills.. :mad ) then went to Lowe's and got some epoxy.

Came home and using a razor, I peeled the foam pad off the useless disk and epoxied that bad boy onto a extra threaded disk I had laying around. It's drying now and was cheaper than the $16 it woulda cost me to have one w/threads shipped to me.

Total Cost... $8 for pad + $4 for epoxy = $12 Total :D

It's in the garage "setting up" now and should be useable here in a few hours. At least I got something I can use now until I get some others w/threads on them shipped to me.

I tried this before, but used Liquid Nail and it did'nt hold. :( So hopefully this time epoxy will do the trick.
It worked really good when it held. I'm amazed NOBODY in town has these pads, or at least more common than what I'm seeing.... It's a no brainer that this is one of the best ways to get a nice polish going, quick! :buttrock

-Edit-

Oh and I usually use the adhesive backed sanding disks for my 6" air DA. Only velcro disks I use are 5" for my electric orbital palm sander.
