View Full Version : That silly little CHIRP CHIRP
shahshauhin 03-17-2005, 01:48 PM 1998 528i E39:
Is there any way, through the factory key sytem, that I can disable that annoying "chirp chirp" my car makes when I lock/unlock it?
If not, can it be disconnected at the siren?
My girlfriend is starting to get pissed off because she thinks that I'm trying to whistle at other girls everytime I unlock my car... ::cheeyuurp chirp::
Regards,
Shauhin

I would just get a new girlfriend
///M3CosmosJoe 03-17-2005, 01:55 PM I believe you must take your car to the dealer. They can reprogram your key/remote to have the features you desire. One of which is silent arming and disarming. I haven't heard of anyone disabling it themselves. You could get a new alarm installed, but that would cost $$$.
If she is that insecure you can do better than that :buttrock
Why would you even consider changing something perfect like E39 for something imperfect like a woman?

Agreed, get rid of the girlfriend.
Phat Ham 03-17-2005, 02:25 PM The dealer can turn the chirp off. There is a fuse you can pull to make it silent, but then your alarm is silent too. The actual siren that makes the chirp is located in the rear passenger wheel well. Taking it off would get rid of the chirp, but I don't know if it affects the alarm at all. You could also change it out for the 2001 and newer chirp, which is a beep instead of the wolfwhistle your car has.
EDIT: I'm not sure if the newer chirp is from 2001 or if it's even older than that.

:lol
Agree, it's a no brainer! :D
wanna trade? i want the wolfwistle then the beeps.
Dwayne 03-17-2005, 03:55 PM I wonder which one I have. I don't think it sounds like a wolfwhistle, it just goes BEEP BEEP, both beeps are the same.
Your girl either has serious issues or is seriously deaf.

Your girl either has serios issues or is seriously deaf. You have the newer one. My friend has a '97 540 with the wolf whistle and it really sounds like a whistle. I think I might trade him.
i want my car to whistle at me since i whistle at my car.

Black BMW 03-17-2005, 07:11 PM actually i like the chirp because sometimes i forget where my car's parked and it lets me find it easily.

that's why i like the wolf whistle; it's different then the rest. Lexus sounds EXACTLY like it and it's annoying.
shahshauhin 03-17-2005, 07:53 PM I dunno guys... The girlfriend is pretty hot. Don't think I could choose the car over her.. Unless....

send me your wolfwhistle siren and i'll send you my beep-beep siren. keep the gf, i have one already and that's plenty. :D
fredo328 03-18-2005, 08:57 AM I turned mine off by depressing both buttons at the same time for a few seconds-I read it somewhere here on the boards. You might want to search for that thread since I am not sure if the car has to be locked first or not.

Like others have said...it can be reprogrammed by your local BMW dealer using the DIS or MoDic equipment they have.
You can disable the audible chirp and just keep the visual (lights flash)...or a combination of either. There's a whole list of things you can have programmed..and if you're going to change the alarm...you might as well look at the whole list and see if you want anything else activated or deactivated.
Here's a PDF file of the list of BMW car/key memory settings: BMW car/key memory settings (PDF file) (http://www.e38.org/E38-Options.pdf)

Cute Face, but I am really going to need to see a body shot to ensure I am giving you the right advice here. :redspot :redspot :redspot
grapefury 03-18-2005, 04:45 PM i actually like the chirp-chirp sound.. a lot of people recognize it as a bmw, and they probably designed it that way on purpose.
Anyway.. i agree with above. hiding behind the fridge is kinda suspicious. we need full body pics :D
DIPLOMATIC-M5 03-18-2005, 06:15 PM I got an M5 :devillook
fredo328 03-18-2005, 07:11 PM ah, body pic needed
Andy740i 07-22-2006, 06:46 PM Hi, I have a 99 528i with the newer "roadrunner beep-beep" entry noise.
I would love to trade with somebody that has a 97 or 98 e39 5 series that doesnt want their "wolf-whistle" chirp.
Please contact me if you are interested

Thanks so much!
Brewtech 07-22-2006, 07:28 PM :eyes1 i cant believe your gf would associate your cars chirp with the way you are. I think in reality you are a playa (more power to ya) and your girl's taking it out on the car. Leave the chirp alone and stand your ground, man. In other words, your girl knows you sail the seas, and your car is your vessel. So if she cant change you then she's gonna change your car.

the only problem with the wolf whistle alarm is the battery dies. the beeping ones run off a Li-Ion which is constantly charging. just a FYI.
