View Full Version : Check out at car in New Orleans
Lemming 03-17-2005, 12:01 PM Anyone from the New Orleans area want to check out a car for me? No it's not a BMW, it's a Porsche 968. The car is currently on ebay and the auction ends this Sunday. Let me know if you're willing to give me a hand. Helping would of course get you a few beers in the pub at some later point in time :redspot
Here's the link to the car http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4535662902&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
knapp 03-17-2005, 01:19 PM I might be able to do it on saturday. Let me get back to you.
Lemming 03-17-2005, 02:28 PM Cool. BabyM, don't you need a trip to the Big Cheesy  I may have to send Julius on a road trip otherwise :eyecrazy
BabyM 03-18-2005, 04:37 PM LOL
I just responded to your PM --I have been remiss in checking this forum lately!
I could possibly chck it out tomorrow. I am racing in LaPlace (just north of New Orleans)
If Knapp can't do it just PM me and get me the details and what you want me to look for (I've never checked out a car for someone else before!)
Cheerio!
cgregory 03-18-2005, 05:51 PM I'm going to be going to N.O. tonight, and passing through again Sat. and Sun. commuting to a two day autocross. Also, my Dad has a 968, so I am pretty familiar with the car. Let me know the address and the seller's phone # if you want me to check it out for you.
If you want to get a good mechanical inspection, get the seller to take it to Jim Lindsay's shop. He does all of the work on Dad's 968, as well as all of the work on all of the exotics in the area, everything from F40s, F50s, and Enzos all the way up to the $6.6 million 330 TRi LM. Great shop
JuliusPleaser 03-18-2005, 11:21 PM Don't do it. That car is waaaaaaay too good for him. :devillook

Thanks, unfortunately, I didn't see this till now. BabyM, thanks.
So this morning I jumped on SWA and flew to the big easy. After looking over the car, I made my offer and it was accepted, and I drove it home :redspot The car is in great shape and, by the way, was maintained at Jim Lindsay's shop.
Anyone looking for a 2003 M3?
BabyM 03-20-2005, 11:19 AM Anyone looking for a 2003 M3?
Does it have a sunroof? :devillook
Lemming 03-20-2005, 11:27 AM Yep. I'm pretty sure the rear hatch area will hold a BabyM, just like the 328:booty

Excellent. :stickoutt
Lemming 03-20-2005, 06:06 PM A few quick pics :D
BabyM 03-22-2005, 05:17 PM She looks great!!
Any plans......?:D
Lemming 03-22-2005, 11:58 PM Plans - nothing major. This weekend I will take time to change out all fluids (brake, engine and diff oil) and repack all wheel bearings. I'll probe and prod everything, just like a good gyn  The car is clean but it needs a good detailing, so that's on the agenda. JP has promised to show up and work on the stereo, nothing exotic, just install an Alpine CD/reciever and replace some speakers.
No major mods planned at present. The paint is in great shape, and other than some fasteners missing, nothing is really needed for the body. I couple of the Cup II wheels are marked up, so I may consider a refinish sometime in the future. The PO put on new tires, and although they are Z-rated, their crap. Those will be replaced after I have some fun on them :cool
cgregory 03-23-2005, 12:42 AM Is it an MO30 car?
Looks great, btw. My only suggestion would be to paint the wing body color.

M030 car, I wish.
I've seen a white 986 with white wing and it did look good :D
jcsomerset 03-23-2005, 01:52 PM Good Looking car Tim !
When do I get to drive it??? :stickoutt
Does this mean JP is going to sell his M sedan?
Josie probably took that shot of the trunk while she was in there cleaning it... :D

You know me too well!! :rofl
I did actually give it a once over...:D

Even without the MO30, its still an awesome car. One of the most fun cars I have driven.
I'm sure you've already been there, but if not you should check out www.968.net it's a great resource.
JuliusPleaser 03-24-2005, 12:15 PM It's a nice car. Tim scored on this one. It needs some detailing and some decent tunes, but no major stuff. I have some Polk Audio speakers lying around that will handle the output end of the tunes, and Tim has an Alpine(?) head unit from his 924.
E36 M3/4 versus 968 coupe lap times should be interesting. :devillook
cgregory - 968.net has been around a long time, and it's a decent resource. I had a 968 cabrio from '98 - '01 and hung out there for a while.
jcsomerset 03-24-2005, 02:32 PM How many polk audio speakers do you have "lying around" larry? :devillook
Lemming 03-24-2005, 03:59 PM Polks can only be put in Porsches, it's a "P" thing
jcsomerset 03-24-2005, 05:40 PM Polks can only be put in Porsches, it's a "P" thing
Even though "Polk" is some guy from up north?
What if I don't want blaupunkts? :dunno
If I Help wire the speakers do I get to Drive it??? :redspot :buttrock :D
JuliusPleaser 03-24-2005, 11:47 PM I think I have six. Let the bidding commence! :D
jcsomerset 03-25-2005, 11:24 AM I think I have six. Let the bidding commence! :D
I've got a bottle of a '98 Rhone sitting in a box on my bookshelf - shoudl be good with some red-meat...
Also got some BAcardi...
How bout a 6-pack?
:D
Seriously - what size are they?
Do all 6 fit into Lemming's car? :dunno
JuliusPleaser 03-25-2005, 12:59 PM I have two sets of 5.25 and one set of 6.5. The 5.25s fit the 968 doors, and the 6.5s fit the rear quarters.
I still have to dig them out. They're here somewhere, but I haven't seen them for a while.
jcsomerset 03-25-2005, 01:44 PM I could use the extra set of 5.25's for either my fronts or the rears - it's 5.25 all the way around...
That's assuming of course that Tim doesn't want to drill some extra holes in the back of his 968.. :devillook (Thump; Thump; Thu-ZRThump) :D
jcsomerset 03-25-2005, 02:56 PM OK - I've been checking them out online - Now I want one too :help :help
BabyM 03-26-2005, 04:51 AM I could use the extra set of 5.25's for either my fronts or the rears - it's 5.25 all the way around...

John- you ARE going to rock these in the Msex right? :buttrock
although they would spiff up l'il red too :D
jcsomerset 03-26-2005, 12:23 PM unfortunately - they won't fit in the M - the red car has 5.25's all the way around.
the M has 4x6 up front and door tweeters (1"'s I think) and something in the back that I haven't bothered to pry the speaker covers off of yet to check. 6x9's I think
greenwavelaw 10-15-2005, 10:52 PM I live in New Orleans and haven't ever heard of this Jim Lindsay. Then again my interest in cars is pretty recent (a year ago when I bought my 545i). Could you tell me where his shop is (and if it's still up and running post-Katrina)? Thanks.
